This was my favorite spot when i used to stay in BKK early 90's. I got along pretty well with Wong and since he died his brother Sam took over the place. Last time i've been there was 7 years ago and now i'm comming back in february. Anyone been there recently?

Brings back some memories for me too!
Back in the late 80s early 90s this was my place to hang out and have breakfast everyday!
Haven't been here for many years though, didn't even know that Wong had died!
Here's a couple of pics from around 88-89 showing a young couple who worked there, and another one showing me and Wong's sister.

Never saw Wong's so clean :) I have stayed for months in the Lee4 guesthouse down the road and went there nearly every day. Behind the bar it was full of musicvideos and he had moved his fridge on the other side of the bar so you could take your own drink and you didn't have to get up :D Plaghat, i will insert the link about his passing away...

Lek worked at Wong's when it first opened 16 years ago. Back then it was more a restaurant than a bar, albeit one that screened music videos. According to Lek, it was the breakfast venue of choice for all sorts of farangs, or foreigners, from derelict backpackers to the staff from nearby embassies. When the original cook left after five years, Wong started focusing less on food. While the Wong's of my time could hardly be termed a gourmet restaurant, over the years I did notice that several fellow eccentrics ate nightly meals there.

This is how I remember the place since I was there mostly in the mornings I didn't see Mr Wong that often, I did have a few long talks to his sister though who always was there when they opened.
I came to the Soi Ngam Duplee i 1987 in those days I stayed at the even more eccentric "Madam" guesthouse in the small "Cul de Sac" off Soi Saphan Khu and always had my breakfasts at "Wong's".

Since 1997 I haven't stayed in this area again.

Last time i've been there must have been 2004/2055. The area has developed itself into a gay orientated place. (not Wong's) The Malaysia hotel lobby was full of boys looking for customers. Not that i have something against gays ofcourse. I remember the madam guesthouse :D i've slept there one night when i came back and there was no room free at Lee4. you are right, it was even more eccentric :P
I've found this link on youtube, i will definitly pay Wong's a visit when i come back, for old times sake.
