I am taking my first trip late October to the LOS and am wondering if Thais celebrate Halloween?
Are there any good nightspots to party?
I'll be staying @ the Dawin hotel by Nana Plaza, so hopefully I'll find something to get into.
Thanks.

Thais interact with Halloween in a very superficial way (by that I don't mean to imply it's anything approaching "deep" in the West, haha, but it is way more deep-seated in the culture in, say, the US than in Thailand). For instance, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who knew what "trick or treating" is. That said, it is exploited commercially and used as an excuse for promotions at bars, including costumes, so I guess in that way it's similar to how frat boy-types in the US perceive "Cinco de Mayo"...they have no idea what they're "celebrating," it's just an excuse to "paaaar-ty" and a tool for manipulation of consumers by businesses and advertisers, haha.
So yeah, it is "celebrated" in many nightspots, people dress up, get (extra?) drunk, blah blah. The dressing up in costumes extends to many (most?) gogos...something I never completely understood. As a gogo customer, when I see a girl purposely made up to look scary or hideous, it doesn't exactly encourage me to want to take her, haha! But anyway, fun can be had...though you could say that about ANY night out in Thailand...which is part of what's great about it!

Usually few girls are working the high-end massage parlors either the day after new years eve or halloween, from
being out all night partying. Thais love to dress up in crazy costumes, so it is quite popular. But the GoGos
also usually raise their bar fines to 1000 baht those nights. So best strategy I think, is take in a massage parlor
early, then go out bar crawling. I remember my first Halloween in Bangkok in '92, it was crazy on patpong.

As earlier posters have inticated there is pleanty of "dress-up' going on all over BKK for halloween, this includes not only the naught night spots, but to the dance clubs as well. Places like Bed, Q, and Glow - to name a few, have plenty of folks in costume and many actually have some kind of costume competition.

Any recommendations where i could get simple halloween costume in BKK? Ran out of time to look for one in US---specifically, a lone ranger / mardi gras mask that just cover the eyes.
i really want to take photos of the ladies in my room. Noticed many turning away from the camera or covering their face with pillow / towel. my idea is to let them wear the simple mask, so at least i can see their smile. actually, hope her mouth will be occupied. that specific angle would be a great souvenir.
of course if I get photos, will share.
