Hey guys,

As far as rucksacks/backpacks go, is it worth waiting until Bangkok to pick up a new one or is it a better idea to get something in London? I know the quality is guaranteed here, but a good 65L pack is about 150 quid. Surely Bangkok can do better???

In Bangkok you will have no gurantee of quality; that North Face or similar mountaineering rucksack will be a very convincing clone and the stitching will come undone when you need it most.

Better to buy one mail-order off the net in Britain; you will get what it says you get. There are dozens of online sites that sell proper mountain gear.

Hell, even Amazon do decent packs for reasonable prices - and I'm sure you can beat them if you search for 10 minutes.
amazon packs

For example, this Berghaus 65+10 for £80-odd

Or a Karrimor Panther 65 for £74

Ot a Karrimor Orkney 65 for £32

Good hunting!

I bought a backpack on my travels and it was starting to fall to pieces by the time of my return! I'd suggest paying the extra at home and perhaps go to the specialist outdoor shops that sell them because you can get one of good quality and one that fits you well. If you are looking to keep it long term, it's worth the extra money.
