  1. Centre Point is on the beach road, set back from the road. You'll see the ladyboys out late afternoon trying to drag in punters to the show. There's a centre point website which has a wealth of info on the bars and gogos here, as well as a map http://aonangcenterpoint.info/
  2. I've been back a few times but never for breakfast. Food and service hasn't disappointed yet. I believe it opens at 9 am and closes 4 am.
  3. I was in Krabi in March. There's not a great deal of action there compared to other major resorts, but enough to keep you entertained for 3 or 4 nights. You want to head to Ao Nang for the best action. There are 2 basic hotspots to hit: Centre Point, which is a small/medium complex hosting around 10 bars, a ladyboy cabaret show, and 1 gogo bar on the 1st floor (I think). This area gets loud and lively as the night goes on, and you'll find a few freelancers hanging about as well as flirty girls staffing the bars. The other area is soi sunrise (roughly opposite the McDonalds), a small soi of what you might call classic beer bars. There are about 10 beer bars in the soi, each one with a handful for girls on staff (very mixed quality). There are also plenty of live music bars and Irish pubs along beach road, and a string of lively bars running up the main road from the South and of the beach - th bars can be good fun and you may find a few freelancers and friendly staff.
  4. I walked past the Twin Peaks on Sukhumvit 17 today, right next to Robinson, literally 1 minute to Asoke station. It looks nice and modern. They are advertising serviced apartments (studio, 1 bed, 2 bed) for short and long term rental, worth checking out - 02-255-5290-3
  5. The Citadines on Suk soi 8 and soi 11 both offer afforable 2-bedroom suites. Guest friendly and close to the action. Also the Phachara on soi 6 has nice 2 bedroom suites available, but can be a bit more expensive for short stays.
  6. A friend of mine is looking for a roommate to share a nice 3 bed apartment on Sukhumvit soi, 8. 18k per month, all bills inclusive You'll be sharing with 2 British guys in their mid-30s, both work in Bangkok and are very fun, outgoing and sociable characters - would suite someone of a similar nature. Located on Sukhumvit soi 8, the location is great for anyone wishing to live in the centre of Bangkok. We are situated just a few hundred yards down the soi, within 1 minute walk of Nana BTS station, and 7 minutes walk to Asoke BTS, Sukhumvit MRT, and Terminal 21. For those who don't know soi 8, it's a very chilled and friendly soi, comprising of several nice hotels, great international restaurants, and a number of terrace and lounge bars. The street has a very cool, cosmopolitan vibe, with lots of street food and fresh fruit available day and night, and all the bars wind down around midnight. The house is 8 floors up so we have no disturbance late at night. We are also opposite Sukhumvit soi 11 for when you are in the party mood, and just a 5 minute walk to the late night chaos of Soi 4 (nana). Room (about 230 ft2) includes - Private toilet and shower - Double bed - enclosed balcony Apartment (about 1800 ft2) includes - Shared dining room - shared living room with TV, DVD + balcony with lovely view of the city - shared kitchen - over, fridge, microwave, rice cooker - utilities area with washing machine and clothes rack - large storage cupboard - small spare room with single bed for guests Building include - Pool - Sauna - Finger scan entry - 24/7 Security - Covered parking The price is 18,000 baht per month, plus one month deposit. However this is all inclusive and includes: - Maid service 2 x per week - including laundry - WIFI - Water - Electric There are 6 months left on the contract with the option to extend, though they could consider a shorter term rental of no less than 3 months. They are looking for someone as soon as possible, as the last tenant has to leave at very short notice. Contact me if you're interested
  7. If you can get a 6 month multiple entry (3 entries), you can effectively get up to 90 days x 3, as you are able to extend each 60 day entry by 30 days at Bangkok Immigration. It takes the pressure off having to leave Thailand every month.

    OVER-STAYING!

Maybe he should re-think whether it's worth it or not, the fine is likely to be more than the cost of a visa run, and he will only lose half a day. Plenty of people overstay and get away with it, but if he does get caught out it will be a very unpleasant experience. Maybe he is eligible to get a visa extension at an immigration office?
  9. I know a few studios on soi 4 for 15k and 1 bedrooms around 18k, all on a month to month contract. Email me for details. I would post the details but I'm booking for 2 friends in the coming weeks and don't want to risk them being full just yet!
  10. I always put visiting friends on Sukhumvit soi 8. It's a cool and chilled soi, opposite the clubs and bars of Soi 11 and around the corner from Nana and Cowboy. 1 minute to Nana BTS, 5 mins to Terminal 21. It's usually ideal. For the 1500 to 2000 rooms I'd go for the Stable Lodge (small resort feel to it) on soi 8 or the Dynasty Inn Grande (very comfortable) just through the short cut on soi 6. For the money is no object guy I'd go with the Adelphi Suites on Soi 8, or Le Fenix down the end of soi 11. Hard to find anything around the 600 Baht mark in that area. I've only had one friend come to visit on such a tight budget and I put them in the Honey House on Sukhumvit soi 22. It's a nice area with lots of bars, restaurants and close to Asoke and Soi Cowboy The hotel wasn't great but then he got what he paid for.. It was 600 per night but he negotiated a bit cheaper for a weeks stay.
  11. The Grande Sukhumvit Hotel on Suk soi 6 has a decent enough gym - it's not as good as the Fitness First or True Fitness at Asoke, but it does offer short term memberships.
  12. I am a big fan of the burgers at the Firehouse around the corner. I was headed there last Friday night with some friends and for some reason we expected to get a table without a reservation - not a chance.. So we begrudgingly decided to give Angel City Diner a try instead. Even though I had low expectations I was very impressed. I had the chili cheese burger with tater tots, and a shake which I loved and now can't remember the name of/flavour (though it was followed by quite a few bottles of Chang elsewhere). I'm not sure I like this place more than the Firehouse or not, I can't make a decision until I head back and taste a few more plates - which I will do. The vibe is very different. Firehouse is more cosy though not intimate (you are sat far too close to neighbouring tables), whereas Angel City is much brighter and more playful, but actually more intimate to (with large chairs enclosing you in your booth). I wish I knew the name of our waitress, she was amazing. A ditzy, 50-something Thai lady, who really put a smile on our faces.
  13. I've done the journey many times and it's taxi every time for me. The difficulty can be finding a taxi that will put the meter on, especially when they see a farang standing around Soi Nana with luggage. One tip is to get your hotel to call you a meter taxi (even then some will kick up a fuss when asked to put the meter on). The fare should be anything from 270 to 350 depending on the traffic. It's also tollway most of the way so once you are off Sukhumvit you can be there in 30 minutes on a decent run. I wouldn't even attempt the bus if it's your first trip to Bangkok, especially not with luggage! The BTS (skytrain) will only take you halfway there. Nana BTS to Mo Chit BTS, and unless the traffic is hellish and you have very little luggage, it's likely to cost you the same and take you longer.
  14. Bangkok isn't the best city for entertaining young ones (but great for the oldies!). I've had family visit with kids before andthe places I've taken them which have been successful include: - Siam Ocean World at the Siam Paragon - I was very impressed (there's also a Madame Tussards nearby but haven't tried it). - Dream World - pretty decent theme park by Thai standards, just a short taxi ride out of town. - Dusit Zoo - doesn't really compare to good Zoos in the West but I had low expectations and was impressed. A trip to the IMAX is also a good way to put a cherry on the day.
