  1. Hi js89

Thanks for raising this. Its a bit beyond me but i can say with 100% certainly that domain/website is not mine. It is also not on our server at all. We have a dedicated server and host only our own sites on there - 100% that is not one of them.

I am not tech minded so I don't claim to understand what these people have done but will get it looked into - so thanks again.

  2. I have stayed at Heaven@4 twice. Both were for reviews so just one night each time.

It is a great place if you like "boutique" style. It is also very close to Nana Plaza.

I found it nice and good value but I am not a fan of boutique style. I think better hotels in the locality are The Dawin and, especially, Aspen Suites which I just discovered and which is awesome in terms of quality, size and price.

  3. I usually stay in the Dawin for my trips to BKK. Nice place and good value at around 1900-2000 per night with breakfast.

However, this visit (just 2 nights) I was persuaded by a friend to try Aspen Suites.

It is located on Sukhumvit Soi 2 which is the Soi adjacent to Soi Nana. It is however about the same walking time from NEP as the Dawin whcih is on Soi 4 itself.

I booked the Deluxe Room with breakfast at 1489 inc taxes on Agoda (prices vary depending on offers at the time).

I am VERY glad I did. This place is super quality, indeed I would rate it up with the Landmark which is 3x the price.

Room was excellent, pool was great! It has a pretty decent decent looking gym although I dont use them so I cannot comment too much on that. Best of all was the breakfast buffet which was as good as I have had in BKK and I have always rated Landmarks breakfast buffet as the best I have experienced personally.

Having reviewed countless hotels in Pattaya and Bangkok I think I can safely say this is the best value for money I have experienced.

OK, in reality it is NOT the Landmark - but at 33% of the price, and with BIGGER rooms, the value and standards are really quite awesome

No pics but plenty on the Agoda Page (even if you dont book with them).

On an extra note - a small tip.

Right opposite the hotel entrance there is a small Turkish restaurant. It was wonderful. I am a bit of a fan of Turkish food but even if you are not it is well worth a try.

  4. Looking for some advice on an apartment/condo/house rental for a few months starting around July. I've stayed long-term before at various serviced apartments and hotels, but this trip I plan to do a "working vacation" for 2-6 months and I'd like a more permanent home-base from which I can do some work.

My wish-list is below, if anybody has any specific recommendations or just advice on where/how to look, I would greatly appreciate it.

    1) MUST HAVE good internet. This trumps all other requirements. I know I can't expect actually "good" internet anywhere in Thailand, but I will need some reasonable connection to be able to work remotely, so I'd be willing to compromise or throw out everything else for this one.

    2) Location can be anywhere - except I'd like to stay away from nightlife areas, as I'll be staying with my GF. Of course the closer to BTS or MRT the better, but OK if its out in the suburbs. Honestly, I wouldn't mind any location in the whole of Thailand, as long as it has internet.

    3) Air conditioned (of course), one or more separate bedrooms, some kind of kitchen.

    4) Would like to keep it around 30k/month, but willing to move up if that's too low, or for the right place. Would be nice if I didn't have to sign-on for the entire 6 months up-front, since I need to be sure I'll be able to get some work done there, otherwise have to go back home after two months.

I've searched quite a bit on the online apartment finders, but its really hard to tell what you're getting on most of them, and it seems like they tack on a pretty hefty commission for themselves I'm guessing. Thanks in advance for any advice.

30k would get you all you need depending on the area you wish to live.

I could recommend Ekkamai and Thong Lor which are very popular areas with expats and you should get what you want inside your budget there.

To get the best deals use the THAI Online agencies - NOT the farang ones. They can be anything up to 50% cheaper for the same type of apartments.

9Apartment has a good rep and although you may need some help with the Thai you can see the lower prices quite clearly.

  5. Yes indeed. Caught this one on Sky so saw the whole match. After the usual first 20 minute's onslaught from Wolves, we settled into our usual pattern of play and really should have had 5 or 6. We were that good yesterday. Eduardo's chip and goal No3 with that neat pass from RVP to Cesc were both pure class!! Plus we've still got the game in hand over Chelscum and ManUre after they play today. I'm hoping for a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 to ManUre. It's still way too early for title talk but I still think Chelscum will be Champs this term.

BTW did you catch the papers today? An article in the NOTW links us with Wolfsburg's Bosnian midfielder Misimovic. Wenger's offered £6m but they want £12m. Don't know anything about him. The 2 players I'd like to see added to the squad in January are Hangerland (Fulham) and Melo (Fiorentina). I'd also like to see Merida play more in the first team this year.

I wouldnt mind seeing Ribery either mate but then again I love flying piggies too.

Is the Huntelaar saga ongoing? Anyone snapped him up?

  6. I know this has been done to death but a report on tridadvisor said that they don't like middle eastern or Indian people, I made a reservation there and I don't want to be turned away b/c I'm indian, although I'm from Canada. My friend looks east indian but I don't, so should I switch the reservation or is this guy just exaggerating. The following is his post on tripadvisor...

"I stayed at Nana, Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok for three nights in late July, 2009. I got the reservation through a friend of mine from England who booked two rooms for us.

When we both arrived at the hotel, the male receptionist was amazed to see me, a colored person, with a white English man. He told my friend that there was a room available only for my friend. After a bitter argument, he agreed to give us the two rooms that my friend has already reserved. It was an extraordinary and weird situation; none of us could believe that in the 2oth century, there is still prejudice against a particular race and where, in a tourist country like Thailand.

The next day, when we met the person in charge, supposedly the manger in the lobby, and my friend complained about the behavior of the male receptionist, the manager said it emphatically in his pidgin English: 'we no interest in people from Middle East or India.'"

I will be blunt, its a dump and experience or not experience you would never catch me in there again. If what you say above is true you can double that dislike!!

Try the Woraburi about 150 metres down Soi 4. Very nice rooms although smaller than Nana.

Available on Agoda for around 900 baht (2 persons + brekkie).

  7. i know someone who stayed there recently through one of these deals and wanted to extend his stay for a couple of nights, but they would not give the same price as what he paid through the agent, but normal price. I think some staff dont have the power to bargain. Depends on the hotels of course.

Yes, but this has one distinct downside. Even in low season the best places fill first and doing it this way dramatically reduces your chances of getting your first choice hotel. If you then end up spending half a day traipsing around finding one you like with availability thats half a day wasted IMO.

I do accept there are benefits to this method but for me having the max' time enjoying myself is the main consideration.

  8. I had to do a one night business trip to BKK recently close to Nana. I often stay at the Woraburi as although the rooms are small they are well fitted and the whole place is far cleaner than the Nana at must lower prices.

This trip I had an interesting experience and its best described by copying in (as best I can remember) the conversation.

    Arrived outside the Woraburi

Big Sign outside stating Room 997 Baht

    Do for me I thought.

Went in and asked for Standard Room, double occupancy with brekkie

"Yes sir that will be 1600 Baht" - WTF.

"You have a sign outside says 997 Baht"

"Oh we dont do that now"

"OK I can book on the internet for 900 Baht"

"OK Sir we will do 1300 baht but only one person and no breakfast"

"But I can book on the internet for 900 Baht. I will pay 1000 for two with one breakfast"

"OK sir but the best I can do is 1300, one person, no breakfast"

    "OK wait"

Walk to the internet cafe - about 30 metres

Book same room for two + breafast on Agoda.

Cost including Taxes for two people and two breakfasts - 931 baht + got 40 loyalty points whcih are the main reason I always use Agoda

    Print off coupon

    Walk back 30 meters.

Girl all smiles "ahhh welcome back sir"

    Hand her the print coupon.

Cue loud THUD as girls chin hits floor.

They now have a grand total of around 760 baht as they pay Agoda20%.

She stands there looking gobsmacked and calls over the manager. He tells her to accept the coupon.

I dont want to appear a cheap Charlie here, I would happily have paid the 1000 to save the short trip to the net cafe.

  9. Thai tourist cisis.

New advertising from the Morning Night bar:

By 1 Loso ticket and get 1 San Miguel beer free !

    Unbelievable....

wow now that really is an unbelievable selling ploy! things never fail to amaze in Thailand!

    Times are hard I guess!

    LOL

I know what you mean guys but its actually 12% discount (at bar price) on a 500 baht ticket - not actually so bad when you think about it.

  10. Hi...well can probably guess from my ID that yep like Loso a lot!

The new CD has grown on me. At first was not sure as its a bit different

    but yes its pretty good!

Thanks for the info on the Loso playing Hilary bar...saw him there about 2 years ago too

and hope to be there for this one also :)

Have seen Loso in Thailand a few times and also in London twice over the years too :)

Just to be pedantic :D its Hillary 2 not Hillary Bar. They are about 100mts apart. Mind you I doubt you will be able to get it wrong on the night.

Hillary 2 is not very big so you will probably have to arrive fairly early to be assured of a view.

  11. Well, Whitespider worked on it, and it did seem to be better, with the images showing again.

But alas, it seems to be back. Probably not an easy fix, from what I can tell.... and I am totally clueless on how these forums work,

Hoping that the mods here can spare some time, to fix this issue. I know this kind of thing takes a lot of time from their schedules, so I am going to be patient, and hope for the best.

    Hi Bud

Actually Laamok worked on it not me - I cant even tie my shoelaces :D

It should be fixed but may take 48 hours to propagate or so I am reliably informed.

Longplay - as I said in my PM, thank you for letting us know and please keep any reports coming as if we are not aware of issues we can't fix them.
