  1. I use private cars from Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi to/from Pattaya. I pay 1200 from Bangkok and 1100 from Suvarnabhumi. For a van I am guessing around 1600. Send a mail to the contact below and ask for a rate. If it is from the airport, the need your flight number. If it is from a hotel, they need your room number. [email protected] (she tends to read a request for rate as a booking, so be clear if you do not accept...) [email protected] [email protected]
  2. Stayed at Grand Swiss a couple of weeks ago. Very girl friendly. No problem finding a taxi outside. The main road is right there. Location is walking distance to NEP and easy to get there by taxi from NEP if you got a girl. Not so easy from SC, as the taxies use the backstreets crossing the sois. Soi 11 get clogged night time. Me and a girl got ditched in a corner by a taxi who gave up. The rooms are nice, but smaller than they appear on the pictures. I hit my head on a rack in the bathroom, and the shower door turns inward so it is awkward stepping in. Overall very clean, but the was an empty pack of Viagra in the drawer from a previous guest. that housekeeping had missed. lol Pool is small but does the job. Relaxed atmosphere. I had an Executive room with club benefits. The lounge was disappointing. Just deep fried spring rolls, mini sandwiches and some dry cake. Think the bars had a good selection, but I saved my alcohol intake for later. Would not stay again unless there was a crazy deal. Better value around.
  3. Pass the crowd outside the terminal and walk over to the parking. The tuk tuk drivers there will take a fixed reasonable rate. Maybe it was 10 USD, can't remember. Google it. I have stayed at the Lux before. Good hotel. Very clean and great location.
  4. Not stayed at Four Points. Grande Centre Point has a great pool area, but lack a bar. The rooms are poorly decorated and feels like dorm rooms. The beds are not very good, and they are so flimsy that they float around the room during ‘action’. Service is poor for a hotel in this price range. Also note that the Grande Centre Point for some reason does not serve alcohol anywhere as the owners are very conservative. It is guest friendly and there is a side entrance from the BTS. Toilet seats are heated.
  5. I have stayed at both. The Continent Was priced much lower when they first opened. Overpriced now. It was about 2/3 of the current price a couple of years ago. The floor to ceiling windows gives a spectacular view from the room. Closer to Soi Cowboy and Terminal 21. Smaller hotel, less established. The floor areas of the hotel are very small. Can feel crammed and a bit claustrophobic. More discreet for when your return with company. Simply because it is smaller and have less traffic. Small pool and on the top floor. Too small, a bit tacky. The Landmark Close to Nana Plaza. You will probably spend more time at NEP than Soi Cowboy. Larger hotel, more of an upscale feel. Large pool with a good atmosphere, but a bit worn down (unless they have renovated it) High quality, newly renovated rooms. All the Nana-girls know the hotel. Both are guest friendly. Enjoy your trip!
  6. Looking forward to the rest of your TR
  7. I don’t know anyone in Bangkok, but I can give you a price for reference. I pay 800 for a high quality shirts at a Thai tailor in Pattaya. I give him a shirt that fits, we pick fabric, and he will make a copy for me. I usually order 3 or 4 when I am there. Ask them to adjust for fabric shrinking. With some fabrics, like Oxford cotton, they soke the fabric to keep it from shrinking later. In Pattaya, the Indian tailors have a bad rep. Most of them take overpriced orders, and go to a Thai place to have them made.
  8. Have a look at Grand Swiss Sukhumvit 11. Around €80. In the same area at the top of soi 11.
  9. I stayed there in 2017. Not refurbished as far as I could tell, but well kept and very clean. In that segment, I don't think it needs to be refurbished. I have stayed in more than 20 hotels in Sukhumvit and it is on of the first hotels I consider it when looking for good a value hotel.
  10. Have stayed at both. I prefer the one on soi 18. Quiet area, but not too far away from the action. Nice rooms, but a bit small. Good breakfast. Nice pool area. There is a back entrance to Scratch Dog right by, if you like clubbing. Plenty of FLs there. The Park Plaza Sukhumvit is older and more worn down. Pool is terrible and the lobby area is not very inviting. Breakfast is about the same. Both are guest friendly (2017). Use the search function. These hotels are mentioned every now and then. http://www.bangkok-addicts.com/forum/topic/6968-park-plaza-hotel-sukhumvit-soi-16-any-good/ (yes, there is an error in the header. It is not on soi 16).
  11. About 400. Remember to specify that you want to take the highway.
  12. I have used it for ST, but I don't recall the rate. ฿600 is reported in 2016 here. I dont think it has changed much. I would not advise against it. Just make sure you book a room with a window. It it technically a 3 star hotel, according to the definition, but it feels more like a 2 star hotel. Check it out on Trip Advisor. Majestic Suites is a better hotel. You get what you pay for.
  13. I have not stayed at Jasmine, but I would recommend the Landmark. After they renovated the rooms a few years ago, it looks really good. Great location as well. Pool is a bit outdated, but still nice. The Majestic Grande is nice as well, and more affordable compared to the Landmark. Rooms are a bit dated but very clean and well maintained. Good service. Still, the pool is small and lacks atmosphere. And I am not sure if you are still able to cross over to soi 4.
  14. Check out Sukhumvit 12 Bangkok Hotel & Suites on soi 12. Good pool for the price. It is a bit far down the soi, but you are prob in a taxi going back anyway. Sofitel has a great pool area, but it is a bit higher than what you are looking for. Park Plaza Bangkok Soi 18 has an ok pool. Good atmosphere. Nai Lert Park had an excellent pool area, but it closed last year.
  15. For me it is the lack of / effort of arranging housekeeping that is the main reason for not using Airbnb. I also don't like the feeling of 'someones home'. I would prob get used to it, but it is a mental barrier for me.
  16. Grunter, You are still in the Members group. I am aware that it now says Advanced Member on your member title, but it is the Group field that defines access to the advanced content. The Title is automatically updated at certain point. Confusing, I know... I believe the setup came with the forum template. Making 50 posts will automatically trigger a review, but it is not he post count in itself that qualifies for an advanced membership but the overall contribution to the forum.
  17. 1. Jasmine City hotel is almost 1 km from Thermae. Expect to use a taxi when leaving with company. 2A. Subway from MRT Sukhumvit (Asoke, not far from your hotel) to MRT Hua Lamphong, end station going south. 4 stations or so I think. 2B. Skytrain from BTS Asoke to BTS Siam. Change to the Silom line, going south. BTS Bang Wa is the end station. Alternatively, take the MRT to Silom, and change to the Silom line there. 2C. Skytrain from BTS Asoke to BTS Siam. 4th stop. 2D. BTS to Hua Lamphong (see 2A), cross the river and take the second road to the left (the next one after the street running next to the river). You should see a 7-Eleven on your left-hand side, and a large temple on the right further down. China Town Gate is about 200 m after crossing the river. Use the BTS / MRT maps or google maps. It is straightforward.
  18. Accessibility Features is a filter option when searching the booking sites. At least on Hotels and Agoda. I think Hotels has the most accurate one, but low budget hotels will probably have a fairly wide interpretation of accessibility. International brand hotels will probably be more professional when dealing with you request. Use the search filter, find an branded hotel and send them a mail. Park Plaza Soi 18 (not to be confused with Park Plaza Sukhumvit) have a small stool in the shower that you can move around (see pic below). Showers are spacious as well. Being an international brand, maybe they can provide you with a real shower chair as well. Park Plaza does not have any steps that I can remember, and they have a tuk tuk that will take you to the main road, alternatively there are taxies passing by every 3 min on that soi. Good luck! Showers in Park Plaza 18. Stool can be seen in the glare just under the door handle.
  19. Is it at a time of day when there is traffic? Do you have fast track immigration? Do you have luggage you need to handle? Have you been before, and know your way around? What would be the consequences of not making your flight? Traffic, luggage and immigration lines are your major risks. If you have any significant delays outbound, just turn around. Have cash, including 100 bills ready before your land. 45 min out of the airport. 45 min cab ride. (Make sure you tell the driver to use the highway. Have a 100 ready to pay the toll.) ... 45 min back to the airport. 45 min immigration. Approx 4 hours. Getting a taxi back to the airport is easy from Sukhumvit road. Tell the driver to use the highway. If everything runs smoothly, you have time. At your own risk! Nana Plaza is closed at daytime. Please post under the non-public section and we can give you more specific advice on where to go.
  20. It is clear what is fake stuff. The branded stores are genuine, as is the branded components the PC builder shops supply. I got an Intel CPU, RAM, an MSI main board and an MSI GPU from Jib store there. All genuine, and the same models available at home. Good professional service. Felt like a safe buy. Was slightly cheaper compared to home, and also got the VAT refunded at the airport. Check out www.jib.co.th for product catalogue and prices. As for the experience of the mall, it is nothing special.
  21. Hotel reception. Tip them 2 twenties. If they don't have a copier, there are copy places around. Not sure where in Sukh. Look for a sign with the old Kodak logo. I know some will make a 2 sided scaled down to the size of a credit card for about 100 baht. I also keep pictures of the ID page, the immigration stamp and the departure card on my phone.
  22. Great hotel! Stayed there many times. Large rooms, comfortable beds, professional staff, good location with walking distance to Soi Cowboy and T21. Easy spot for grabbing a taxi to Nana or Patpong. No joiner fee. Had a massage girl outcall once, reception called me and sent her up to my room, no questions asked. Their breakfast if excellent. They offer a full selection of Western, Thai, Indian and Chinese food. Their loyalty program is good value. I have redeemed in all 25 nights, all with an upgrade to junior suite and business lounge access.
  23. Someone mentioned the Boxtel by the hour hotel at Suvarnabhumi in a thread recently. I used it for 4 hours a couple of days ago. My flight home was delayed from 9 am to 2.15 pm. The airline should have sent me a mail, letting me know so I could have stayed at my hotel in the city. But no mail. So I got up at 5.30 am, and was at the airport by 7. The taxi did not use the highway by default for some reason. Every time I take a taxi to the airport, the driver takes a new route, so I did not notice at first. Had I been in a hurry, it could have been catastrophic. Always tell the drive specifically to use the highway! Anyway, here is what you need to know about the Boxtel @ Suvarnabhumi Airport. Location. The Boxtel hotel is located at the B level by the Airport Rail Link and the exchanges. You need to use the elevator to get there, at least from the departure level. BKK have this weird thing where the arrival level is blocked off. Booking. They have a website for booking, but it is not intuitive at all. You need to select dates for check in and check out, and they can not be the same date. Yet, it is all by the hour. So just don’t bother with the website. I showed up and payed cash by the counter. Staffed by a friendly woman who spoke good English. The place did not seem to be very busy, and there are plenty of rooms. You can choose from 2 hours up if I remember correctly. Price. 3 hours was 950. 4 hours was 1250. Then there is a 100-baht deposit. Wifi included. Standard. The rooms are very basic as expected. DIY style. Very clean. Overall quiet, but I did hear the occasional suitcase being dropped. There is an outlet for charging and a fan in the roof. Keep the fan on as it gets very warm inside. I am 180 cm and had no problem with the size of the bed. The toilet is further down the hall, so better make a visit before you settle in. There are a few vending machines outside and a seating area. I do not recommend it as a ST hotel. I was really glad I had this option! So much better that hanging out at the departure hall for 5 hours.
  24. First, warts are not treated by antibiotics as they are not bacteria. There is not one antibiotic to cover everything. Which one would you take...? And how do you know that you don’t still have gonorrhea even if you did antibiotics against chlamydia? Gonorrhea and chlamydia sometimes go together and the most common way to treat gonorrhea is by injecting one type of antibiotics and doing a different antibiotic orally for a week in case of a co-infection. Use a condom and you will be fine. Best thing you can do for your significant other. If you have a slip, test yourself for chlamydia and gonorrhea after a few weeks. Get a proper test, not one of those overpriced rapid tests that the street clinics offer. They are only about 50 – 60 % reliable. Warts and herpes is not treated with antibiotics. Herpes is treated with antiviral drugs. These STDs are hard to connect to a single exposure and can disappear and re-appear later. Don’t do antibiotics unless you actually have something. Excessive and misuse of antibiotics is causing STI bacteria to become resistant. Azithromycin is already ineffective against some cases of chlamydia and there are only a few options left for gonorrhea. Imagine getting untreatable gonorrhea and pissing barbed wire for the rest of your life. I had chlamydia once. And one case with severe chlamydia/gonorrhea symptoms which they could not figure out. Tried all sorts of antibiotics. Was a bitch to get rid of. You will get antibiotics OTC in Thailand, but what is the point if you don’t know what you have, which antibiotic is the right one, and if it will be effective. Btw, I am not a pro. Don’t trust anything I write. Talk to an actual medical doctor (street clinics in Thailand does not qualify).
