  1. Yeah, believe it or not I was not looking to get someone's approval for living in a place infested with roaches and I can't imagine the place is "infested".   You're also saying freelancers don't go to dance clubs?  I'm pretty sure I've seen videos on youtube and tons of articles online reporting freelancers frequent the nightclubs.

I didn't mean to criticize, you're the one who brought up the roaches. As for the freelancers, other posters have already clarified and expanded. Like I said, I don't really enjoy RCA that much and that's even considering the fact that I do speak Thai.

  2. I lived in a roach infested place once, I can't recommend it. Their poop looks like ground coffee and you'll probably find poop long before you find any roaches. They also like to put their eggs inside drawers or in any place that's secluded really. They attach them in corners and small spaces. I once found them in the grooves of a big screw in my closet.

A lot of people are allergic to them. I read once that scientists that work with roaches often develop a hypersensitivity to coffee, as coffee apparently contains a lot of ground up roaches. Come to think of it, I'm about half a dozen cups in so far today.

In any case, I doubt you'll find many freelancers around RCA. There aren't many Westerners going there at all. I also believe you may struggle to meet people, as most people like to huddle up in groups around their tables and they're also very shy about speaking English, in the cases that they are able.

If you're young and handsome you'll probably manage anyway, but if you were you might not be looking to get with freelancers.

RCA isn't really my scene, hopefully someone else can weigh in that likes to go there, but this is my impression.

  3. This has been really interesting so far and I must say I've learned a lot myself. The most critical thing I've learned is the importance of timing. When I'm out on my own it's not such a big deal if a place is dead that I thought would be bustling or if a restaurant is closed that I thought would be open. I've gotten a lot better at calling ahead if I suspect there's any risk a place might be closed. The worst incident so far was when I let a public holiday sneak up on me and had to cancel a meetup. That's something you don't worry about when you live here but when you're here on a brief vacation it can really have an impact.

I've also learned about what people tend to be interested in. More people want to at least see some Ladyboys than I initially expected. It's not really worth taking a detour to eat unless someone is really interested in food. Unsurprisingly people are not so price sensitive when they're here on holiday. It's much better to help them negotiate a better experience than a lower price.

I'm really starting to tighten it up and make it more focused, making sure we hit the right places at the right time and not waste time on detours. Some places are really worth popping into for a quick look (e.g. The Thermae, Beer Garden, BJ bars) but not worth staying for 30 minutes to have a drink unless you really want to. If you like any of them you'll know they're there and can return on your own later.

I haven't taught anyone a single word in Thai I believe, and to be honest there's not much point to it if you're not planning to live here.

I've also had to remember what it's like to be here for the first time, not knowing how to get a girl down from the stage or how to decline offers from overly aggressive girls trying to pull you inside their bar. Some guys are more self-conscious whereas others don't mind having me negotiate on their behalf. I always put the offer on the table that if they want to split up and end the night on their own I don't mind.

I also discovered something interesting recently, which is how to fulfill more unusual requests. I set out to find toms, which is a term for  lesbian or bisexual girls who tend to dress boyishly and wear their hair short. You can usually see some girls like this sitting outside the bars in Nana where their girlfriends work, or coming by on motorcycles at the end of the night to drive their partners home. I found some success by looking for ads they would post online but I've now realized that I would find more success posting my own advertisement and let them come find me. In any case this is more relevant to those staying long-term or frequent visitors, but if there's any unusual requests like that I might be able to help arrange something.

In any case I'm still around if anyone wants a tour. Feel free to PM and as always there's no strings attached, I'm just doing it because I like going out and having fun.

  4. Sounds very odd.

I certainly agree. Hence why I didn't bother with it the first time it happened. It does make a bit of sense though, girls wanna try it out with a foreigner and some of these girls may not even speak a lick of English so don't really have the opportunity to do so.

In any case I'm always willing to walk away if a situation seems too suspicious.

  5. I need someone to help me out for a bit if there are any volunteers. There's this girl I met on a Thai language messageboard that wants to meet up just to fuck. The problem is that she will only meet with me if I bring a friend. This isn't the first request of this kind that I get and I honestly don't think there's anything to it other than she's a horny girl that wants two white dicks at the same time. This particular girl is 21 years old and a student at Rangsit University. I've only seen clothed pictures but she looks petite, pale, and she's certainly pretty enough to charge for it.

She's coming into central Bangkok on the 17th and I've promised that I'd bring a friend and meet up with her. Thing is I don't really know anyone I'd want to bring. So I'm looking for someone to help me out. I need someone that's booked into a guest friendly hotel around Nana or Asok and that's willing to take turns boning this girl. You don't have to look like a model as long as you're not a trainwreck. Considering the nature of these arrangements you would also need to have a measure of understanding if the thing falls through.

So is anyone interested and available on the 17th? Send me a PM and we can talk on Line. I'll send pictures as well.

  6. the amount of preparation u willing to do for a stranger amaze me haha...

Well think about it? Most people don't bring an umbrella in their carry-on, but if you don't have one when you need it you're going to get soaked. If you wanna take a train during rush hour you're going to have to queue up to exchange bills to coins, then queue up again to buy a ticket from the machines. That's why I always have another card with me, so that if I'm with a friend I can just swipe them through.

It's called providing value. Basically you solve problems for other people and help them out and in return many of them will help you out in return. For example, I met up with a guy yesterday and he brought me a bottle of wine from Europe. In return I did my best to show him around Bangkok. If I succeeded then that's a pretty clear win-win to me.

    how much ur rent now?

Apartments in my building are between 18000-20000, but I negotiated it down a bit.

  7. Hi, just wondering...

if u can make income online, is it possible to stay and rent in Bangkok more than a month?

(I got a day job but just curious)

Whaddya mean? If you have money you can stay indefinitely. The longer you stay the more hassle you'll have with visas, but on the other hand your other costs go down. I'm on a one year lease, which is significantly cheaper than a short term rental, which in turn is significantly cheaper than a hotel or AirBnB. Also have yearly gym membership, post-paid phone and internet, only transfer money every few months so saving on bank charges, etc.

Please deposit 2 Changs before receiving answer.

Of course, "cheaper" doesn't necessarily mean that you save money. It could also mean that you spend the same money but get a lot better value for it. I currently live in the best apartment I've ever had.

The places I've lived in Bangkok (one month or longer) actually range from ฿3500/month (shacked up with a bargirl) to a two storey condo with an ฿80.000.000 price tag. I've been a regular at dirty street stalls but I've also eaten at Michelin star restaurants. When I went to Saigon earlier this month I spent three days straight drinking some of the most amazing craft beer I've tasted in my life. The last time a bargirl offered to fuck me for free I ended up giving her ฿2000, because I'm such a bleeding heart captain save-a-hoe.

I guess I am obsessed with getting value for my money. Working in a luxury industry you see people paying high prices for garbage and you realize that sometimes there's literally no correlation between value and cost.

I'm actually meeting up with the first guy that's contacted me so far and in preparation for his visit I spent >฿1000 trying out a new restaurant that I thought he might enjoy. If we go on the BTS I've already got a Rabbit-card to give him so he doesn't have to queue up. If we need to go somewhere I've got GRAB set up in my phone so we can get places smoothly. If he would need XL Condoms or ultrathin ones (e.g. Sagami) or Kamagra I already have that covered without taking a detour. I already went past Suzy Wong's to ask when the live-show starts so we could time it right. I even got an extra umbrella for him in case it starts to rain.

Now maybe he'll reimburse me for whatever I spend or maybe he won't, in any case I'm not fretting. This particular guy has already shown reciprocity, but even if he hadn't, I'm expecting to lose some money doing this. I guess that's why it rubs me the wrong way that someone thinks I would count beers on a bar tab or try to sneak freebies. I do hope to get something out of it, but it has to be win-win, otherwise I'd feel too ashamed to accept any favors.

  8. So far I've been contacted by four people including one very interesting request to accompany a female friend of the guy who contacted me. Here are some ideas I proposed to him:

    • Meet up around 6-7 pm and find a somewhat quiet seat where we can watch the Go Go-girls walking past on their way to work and get to know each other a bit and find out what she's into. Chat about different kinds of working girls, how to spot a ladyboy, common scams she might be might encounter in Bangkok, maybe some snappy jokes in Thai, discuss the morality of it all, anything goes.
    • Hit up one or more of the ladyboy-bars in Nana early on before they get too drunk and rowdy.
    • Go and eat some Isaan Thai food, get a mix of things that are tasty and a bit unusual, depending on how interested and adventurous she is. I used to work in fine dining and I can read menus more or less fluently so if she's curious about food this could be fun. Otherwise there's plenty of Western food to eat if she's not that interested.
    • Go and see a live show, e.g. Ping Pong, Bodypaint, girls performing various anatomical tricks on stage.. This is where I usually take women that are curious and they tend to appreciate it.
    • Depending on how into girls she is I might not take her to that many Go Go bars. Women don't tend to have as much fun going from bar to bar as guys do. I might take her to the rowdiest, most obscene venue (which would be Crazy House) if we're going only to one or two places. Then on the other hand if she's the type to get up on the table and dance herself or she'd even like to barfine a girl to go with us I've got some other places I would pick.
    • Probably a tuk-tuk ride to the Thermae just to see the madness of it when we're on the way between Nana and Cowboy. If she doesn't mind walking I'll show her the sights along the way, such as freelancers, scammers and Blowjob-bars.
    • Later on in the evening probably a trip to Silom and the male Go Go bars there. If she's really into this place (some girls are) we might end the evening here and I could even help her negotiate a barfine and figure out the logistics if that's what she's into (obviously no judgement on my part, and I'm good at forgetting).
    • If that's not her style we might end up at one of the nightclubs along Sukhumvit or if she's the type that wants to go clubbing we can even hit up RCA (most high end night club district in Bangkok where not many foreigners go). If we take this route I can stick around and make sure she gets back to her hotel safe and sound.

I've shown women around before and it tends to be fun albeit a bit different. There's plenty to see even if you're in it for the entertainment rather than chasing girls. Of course, some women like chasing girls as well.

  9. Alright man. I want you to hook me up with all the foxy Tom poontang.

That's definitely worth a round of Singhas and a bucket of Sangsom.

Also, please let me know how to haggle a box of Kamagra down by baht 50.

I told you privately, but just for anybody else who might be curious. I was purchasing quite large amounts of Kamagra and with the nature of gray markets in this country there's not such a clear line between legit and illicit distributors. For example, my friend walked into Bumrumgrad (most expensive private hospital in the country) with no history of ADHD and walked out thirty minutes later with a 30-day supply of Ritalin (not technically amphetamines but same category). I thought people would be able to read between the lines but they all seemed to think I wanted to save 20 baht to get my dick hard. The thread obviously was locked for a reason so I'll leave it at that.

In any case I'm looking forward to seeing you when you get here, we have a very interesting overlap of interests and experiences so I think we'll have fun for sure!

  10. Dude, you are already my go to advisor for How to Pick Up Tom's in BKK. Next time I'm in town I hope you link me up and show me the ropes.

Give a man some pussy, he eats for a day. Teach a man how to fish pussy, he eats for life. I want to know how to fish for fishy Tom poon.

That's too flattering, I'm hardly an expert in this area either. But I do have some leads from Thai-language only websites that we will for sure check out next time you're in town.

  11. There is definite interest. Can't be many better ways to get acquainted with the city and in the process make a friend. I know there are people offering such services in Europe for a fee. Your offer is quite reasonable in comparison.

Arriving in BKK on the 27th this month. Do PM me on how to contact you.

    Cheers.

Happy to hear that. I gotta tell you, I'm in Saigon right now and I would happily compensate someone to show me around here or even just translate. I'm meeting up with a girl tonight and a different girl tomorrow but to be quite frank being shown around by an expat tends to be way better. They have the same priorities and expectations you do whereas a girl might take you to restaurants where her friends work or go to a chain restaurant for the very reason that it's expensive (thus high status).

I'm certainly not even the most qualified on this forum to give a tour but I wouldn't rip anyone off, and if I knew what I know today when I first came here I would've saved myself much headache, heartache and cash.

I'll send you a pm with my Line ID.

  12. Alright, some funny replies here are making me realize I came off as a bit of a Cheap Charlie. There's definitely some truth to the stereotype of the guy who will take the baht bus, eat noodle soup every day and do anything to stay in Thailand. I just had a conversation via PM where I elaborated some:

I do enjoy showing someone around and sharing what experience I've got but if I'm going places I wouldn't often go on my own (such as taking a detour to Patpong or taking a walk through the Thermae) I'd at least like to cover my expenses. There are many things which are very much worth doing once but which I have seen a dozen times already.

I have in the past extended the reverse offer to other people and it can be great to have someone show you around that knows the terrain. In fact I'll be going to Vietnam soon and the last time I went I did offer to buy beer and food for whomever wanted to show me the best places to eat street food. Quite frankly I'd be much more qualified to lead a food tour or a language class.

Anyway, I'm staying here long term (my name on the lease, no flatmates, not a studio apartment, on a valid visa and with health insurance, and not out in Din Daeng either) and I figured I would have something to contribute. If anyone wants to just grab a beer and talk about life in Bangkok I'll be happy to pay for it myself. Cheers!

  13. I need some tutoring in the following, wonder if you can help me?

    1. Surviving in BKK by only teaching 6 hours of English per week

    2. Using FamilyMarts to loiter, and for pre-party drinking to reduce bar tabs

    3. Staying in Thailand without a proper Visa

    4. Showing up to Thailand a 24 year old virgin and nailing 3 geeky college students in your first year

    5. Making the most out of your Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Literature by charging an extra 50 Baht per hour for English Classes

    6. Saving to one day purchase a 90cc two stroke third hand scooter made in Viet Nam

    7. Living on 2 dishes of Meekrab per day: and putting the savings into Chang

    8. Bilking Newbies out of Beers by providing Value

I'll gladly pay up 7 or 8 Leo's for this level of insight. Do I get a Certificate at the end of the lessons?

  14. I've lived in Bangkok for a few years and I think I can offer some value if you're new. Such as...

    • How to get taxis to use the meter
    • Which bars are topless/nude
    • Where to find the hottest girls..
    • ..or the cheapest
    • Which bars will try to scam you or have outrageous barfines
    • Avoiding scams and overpaying in general
    • How to spot a ladyboy (or meet one, if that's what you're into)
    • Where to get the best food
    • How to ask for what you want..
    • ..and negotiate the price..
    • ...or flirt and negotiate on your behalf and keep the mood light if she doesn't speak any English but you still want to get with her
    • How to flirt and joke around in Thai
    • How to get over being shy and not letting the girl (or worse, the hostess) lead the interaction
    • Getting a girls contact details if you can't/won't have her go with you but want to meet her later.
    • Meeting freelancers online
    • Going off the beaten path...
    • Where to get tested, buy condoms, day-after pill etc.

I can also advice on other non-nightlife related topics such as...

    • Learning to speak Thai
    • Finding an apartment and negotiating rent
    • How to order food (level of spiciness/sweetness, double portion size, allergies, etc..)
    • SIM-cards
    • Night markets and haggling
    • visa runs, applications, extensions, etc.

Most of this stuff you could find out about online but if you're only in town for a few days I could hopefully save you some time and maybe even spare you a misstep or two.

I can't afford to go out as often as I'd like to but I'm expecting to have fun as well, so I'm only asking that you cover the beers and maybe some other expenses like sharing a taxi or some street food. Also if either party wants to cut the night short and split up that's fine as well, you don't owe me anything and I don't owe you anything. Not that it needs to be said but I can keep a secret and won't tell anyone else about where we go or what we get up to.

No idea if anyone will be interested but feel free to reply to this thread or send me a direct message.

  15. Thai Smile, which is a sister airline to Thai Airways.

    Or Cambodia Angkor Air.

A cursory look shows prices ranging from 4000 to 7000 with Thai Smile which is 2-4 times as expensive as Air Asia. It's only a one hour trip so I wouldn't fuss about comfort although Thai Smile travels out of Suvarnabhumi instead of Don Mueang which might be a plus for some. Thai Smile has a better safety record as far as I know but beyond that it seems like a waste of money.

  16. I've met Mark. I agree his emoting is exaggerated but he's a really friendly guy and his advice tends to be a great starting point even though I don't always agree with him.

If anyone is interested I may be able to act as a guide in exchange for a beer or two. I'm not a certified expert but I've been learning about food in Bangkok for some time, I can read menus and order according to preferences and I've got experience cooking in fine dining restaurants so most of what we eat I can roughly explain how it's made.

Professional food tours can be nice if you're strapped for time. I really enjoyed them in Vietnam but in Thailand I've not had any need.

Just noticed this thread is a year old but whatever.
