May 3rd onwards - looks like we might just miss each other.
Hey Vince, I’m arriving on May 2nd. Staying on Soi 4 but I bar-hop at most of the main spots. Always happy to meet for a beer and pass on some recommendations! 👍

How long do the rain showers last? Is it like the majority of the day or a few hours?
So the last time I visited in May, it was for 7 days and there was one rain shower in that time. A really heavy shower, for about one hour. That was it. I seem to remember sheltering in Hillary 2 😀

I’ll be in town from May 1-11, and very much looking forward to it.
@Zeroat It’s still pretty hot in May, similar temperatures to April. But as May goes on, I think it might start to get a bit more humid. When I visited in late May a few years ago, there were a few heavy rain showers once every few days. Although I’m sure expats living in BKK all year round will be able to give a more definitive answer 😀

Got into Bangkok today, ready to see what's what. If anyone wants to get a beer or 10 with this short fat bastard let me know. Cheers🍻
I’ll be touching down on Monday night, and will be in town all next week. Always up for a beer, I’ll give you a shout!

Kicking off a thread for anyone arriving in BKK this August! I’ll be landing on August 28th and will be in town for a week. I’ll mostly be found hopping from beer bar to beer bar, and I can’t wait! Always up for a cold beer and a chat, so hopefully I’ll catch up with some of you while I’m over 😃

Ibis Styles on Soi 4 has a really nice infinity pool with a good view of the Sukhumvit skyline. It’s the main reason I’ll be staying there again when I head back this summer!
-
Looking likely that I’ll be back in BKK for the week of July 3-10. Always keen to meet for a beer any time 👍 Can’t wait to finally get back.

What’s the deal with this Phuket sandbox when it comes to flying in? Is it direct flights only? What about if you’re flying from somewhere long-haul that requires a change at Bangkok… is that allowed, as long as you don’t leave the airport?

Good luck sir. Let us know what the quarantine experience is like... and also what it’s like once you’re free to roam!
Looking forward to your updates 🙂

I guess there’s a chance that borders open to tourists first who can prove they’ve had a vaccine. Although being under 50 and ‘healthy’ I’m bottom of the queue so I doubt I’ll get my vaccine till Q3 2021 anyway.
I’m in the same situation as you Rocky. I’m kinda hoping that we may see some sort of specialist ‘travel vaccine clinics’ popping up. Like a clinic where you can pay to get your vaccine for travel purposes. I know it’s not ideal having to pay for it, but I’d be willing to if it meant I was able to travel sooner.
Whether the country will allow any vaccines to be available privately, that’s another question...

Already posted in the January thread as I arrive on January 30th, but I’ll be around for the first week of February. Heading home on February 6th. Always happy to have a beer with any fellow board members in town 🙂

I’ll be arriving for my annual visit on January 30. Staying for 7 nights. Always up for a beer or two, so feel free to give me a shout if anyone wants to meet up - @Donny_Boy if you need someone to show you a few bars for your first visit, just let me know. First beers are on me!
I’m staying on Soi 4, and can be found hopping from bar to bar most afternoons and evenings. My general timetable...
12-2pm - hopping from bar to bar
2-4pm - walking from bar to bar
4-6pm - swaying from bar to bar*
6-8pm - staggering from bar to bar*
8pm onwards - crawling on hands and knees from bar to bar
*may be spotted with middle-aged MILF bar girl who is way past her best but still knows how to have a good time 🙂

I had an absolute tear up in Nana Plaza last night and bar fined three girls. Two short times from Billboard and a long time from Twister. I spent 18k baht but had one of the best nights of my life.
Hahaha :) Ok, it’s safe to say you made up for lost time! Awesome.

So sorry to hear about this experience. It’s every traveller’s worst nightmare, particularly when your time on holiday in Thailand is so precious.
Well done for making alternative plans and getting over there. Hopefully now you can make up for lost time and really enjoy it. Good luck with the reimbursement claim too.

Shame our paths do not quite cross this time, Mr Tit. I will try my best to leave Soi 4 in good working order, ready for your arrival!

This February thread is looking a bit quiet, so thought I better book something up ;)
I’ll be in town for 6 nights, February 7-13. Either staying in Soi 11 or Soi 4, still trying to decide on a hotel.
Surely we’re not the only ones down for February fun?!

I’m keeping tabs on these developments every day. I’m about ready to pull the trigger on booking a week’s visit in February, and I need to be sure of optimum drinking time!
Feb 23-24 is now just a month away so, if there are going to be elections on those days, they will need to confirm it pretty damn quick.
It’s looking 99% likely it will be delayed. But until that extra percent is added, I’m holding fire against pressing the ‘book now’ button, just to be safe!

Fantastic, thanks for the encouraging reports guys.
Yeah Mulli’s is a decent boozer, always stop there for a quick one or two when I stay in Soi 11. I always used to stay opposite in the Aloft, but the prices there have really gone up over the past year.
Looks like the Citadines might be the winner this time, cheers gents :)

Just found these on my phone. Here is a pic of the bar at the Bangkok Mikkeller, to give you an idea of the beers and prices. Pumps 18 and 25 look a bit lively! Both 13% - probably for the best I didn’t try either of them!
And an action shot of a pint of ale along with some taster flights at Craft on Soi 23. You’ll see I went for some variety with my tasting tray... from the left, it looks like a craft lager, an IPA, a porter and a blonde ale...

Has anyone stayed at the Citadines on Soi 11, opposite the Aloft? I like staying in Soi 11 and I’ve found some pretty good prices for this hotel in March.
Pics look great, but wondered if anyone can provide a first-hand assessment. Room comfort, guest friendly etc. Thanks :)

Craft beer and ale can be found, but you will certainly pay premium prices for it.
Craft on Soi 23 is great. Only a short walk from Soi Cowboy, with a big open-air area on the corner of the street. They had loads of ales on tap, and you can also take the tasting option and have 4-6 flights of different beer rather than one pint.
There’s a very similar place at the top of Soi 11 called Brew. It’s a lot smaller, but they have a similar beer menu. It’s in the same place where you get the amazing Daniel Thaiger burgers, so well worth a visit!
Beats’ suggestion of the Ekamai Beer House is also a good shout. I stopped there last year and had a couple of great pints. From there I went on a mission to find the Bangkok Mikkeller bar, which is hidden away in a residential area of Soi 63. Well worth a visit if you love unique beer, but be warned... it ain’t cheap!

Another vote for EVA Air from me, for economy they are definitely the best I’ve experienced in terms of comfort, leg room and reliability.
-
I’d love to join you but not back until early August :D
Everyone should try QPP and the Soi at least once and especially with someone who knows the area as it seems the really good bars are the hard to find ones - Tina Bar, Squeeze Inn/ Bar

One of these days our trips will coincide, and we can go on a Soi 22 appreciation bar crawl!
Hope you feel better soon Gibson. Maybe the sun and sights of Bangkok will speed up your recovery :)
-
All booked up May 24-29, staying on Soi 11 again.
If anyone is curious to try out Queens Park Plaza or the other beer bars of Soi 22, give me a shout - I always spend a couple of afternoons or evenings there.
Other than that, I can be found hopping from beer bar to beer bar during the day, and Nana/Cowboy/Patpong at night.
Pointplace, I’ll be around for your final few days so would be happy to catch up over a beer and hear about your week (and pick up any hot tips!)

I’ll be in town from May 2nd, and I’m also staying in Soi 4. So I’ll definitely be around for a beer or two!
