  1. I didnt stay in a corner room, only a standard one, but it was on the 23rd floor facing east. It is facing the skyscraper next door but it's not close enough where privacy becomes a concern. Plus after office hours there wont be anyone as all the lights are off. You can totally have fun with your BF against the window without worry lol 😉 . Tbh, I'd rather not have the room face NEP especially on lower floors due to potential noise concerns.
  2. My trip to thailand included spending 3 nights on Koh Samui. Cost: Booked a superior double room with pool view via agoda. Around $80 cad per night after taxes and fees. (kinda surprised this is way cheaper than the hotels in BKK.) Location: As its name suggests, it's located in the Chaweng district, aka the nightlife area. In fact, soi green mango is right across the street, and the infamous ArkBar is several buildings to the east. (ArkBar is closed off for some reason. Maybe renovations? Only their beach bar is open). Central Samui shopping mall is like 5min walk away. If you are planning to spend most of time at the resort, I have to point out that hotel is right underneath the flight path of the nearby airport, so you'll see and hear planes overhead during the day. Room: All of their rooms besides their bungalows are in 2 storey buildings. I booked superior double room because all their superior rooms are located on the second floor. Staying on the second floor means having to take a flight of stairs every time, but for me this is the better than staying on the ground floor, where there may be privacy concerns unless you keep your curtains closed all the time. My room is fairly standard, and clean, but some of the furniture are showing some wear and tear. The bed is on the firm side, which may bother some who prefer softer mattress. Pools: there are 2 pools. One runs along the superior rooms and has a pool bar at the end. The other is a beach pool located right next to the restaurant. Breakfast: It's included in the price. Basically a buffet style breakfast serving both western and asian dishes. It was pretty good. I liked that they have several nespresso machines for all your coffee needs. Being able to enjoy breakfast with a sea view is pretty nice. Getting to/from the airport: All taxis do NOT have meter. Forget about Grab because it's just as expensive due to lack of drivers. Your main form of transportation besides walking are songthaews that run between the main districts on the island. At the airport you can take a share van for 120b (costs more if going to other areas farther than chaweng) that will drop you off at your hotel. Getting to the airport, however, I had no choice but to take a taxi. If traveling in a group, you can rent a songthaew and split the cost. Because I wanted to avoid potential disagreement in pricing with the driver, I had inquired about the price at hotel beforehand and had the hotel book the taxi for me. This short drive to the airport (not even 10min) costed me 300b. (I had a feeling it would cost more if I just flagged one of taxis on beach road.) Overall, it's a pretty nice hotel. I get to chill at the beach and just enjoy the nice view of the sea while downing a cold one. I was lucky that it did not rain at all during my stay. Nice clear sunny weather everyday. https://imgur.com/a/mZClocP
  3. The bed was comfortable, not too firm or soft. Personally I'm not too picky with the bed firmness. The pool is small. It's located right next to the rooftop bar so it's more of enjoying the view or a few drinks than actually swimming. The gym also have great views as it's one floor above the bar (although I didn't use it). Other than the bar or the lobby, there isn't much place to sit around. This isn't a resort hotel. It's more aimed at business travelers. For me, this place is currently my top pick if you are looking to stay in the asoke area because the location, bang for the buck, and the young age of the hotel is pretty unmatched.
  4. I decided to stay at a different hotel besides Landmark after my side trip to Samui. You can read my review about the Landmark in this thread. Originally I was looking at Grande Centre Point T21 but I decide give this place a try since it is new, as it opened in 2020. It is part of the Nishitetsu Hotel group thus you get Japanese customer service combined with Thai friendliness. It's clear they are catered towards Japanese travelers as they have staff that can speak Japanese. I paid $430cad all in for a standard double room for 3 nights via agoda. I wanted breakfast but I couldn't add it as a option on agoda for some reason. Location Pretty much second to none. It has direct access to asoke BTS which means you can reach BTS, MRT, and Terminal completely protected from rain and without having to deal with stairs. Their lobby is located on the same level as BTS access. Every time I walk by the staff at reception will greet you. Room The room is slightly smaller compared to Landmark's but you still get a comfy big bed. I felt that my room was barely used as it still has that "new car smell". There's ample outlets and usb ports. The only thing I'll nitpick is that it lacks a desk and a LAN port, which is odd considering it's aimed at Japanese business travelers. The washroom is shower only but it has one of those Japanese toilets, complete with bidet and dryer function, accessed via a control panel to the side. The tv has all the Japanese channels as well as netflix (but I couldn't get netflix to work). There's 4 bottles of complimentary water daily. (2 are in the minifridge). One thing I like is that you need your key card to access the elevators as well as the entrance during late night hours for increased security. Facilities There's a Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor. I did try breakfast one morning. It's not buffet style, but rather you choose between Japanese or Western style breakfast. There's a self serve area where you can grab toast, fruits, juice and yogurts. I picked the Japanese style breakfast and it was good. It cost 350b plus tax. There's also a rooftop bar, pool, and gym which are all located on the 27th floor. They gave me a voucher for a free drink during checkin so I did check out the bar. The view is nice, especially at night. Final thoughts I liked this place more than Landmark. Better location and newer. Landmark isn't bad but it's showing its age. I personally prefer staying at closer to asoke rather than nana. FYI, I didn't bring any BF back to the hotel. If you are worried about reception greeting you while you bring your lady, the good news is that reception is unmanned after like 10pm. There's still a security outside the BTS access but I highly doubt he cares. If you are that paranoid you can enter the hotel from the ground floor.
  5. forgot to mention that the basement is closed. (maybe renovations? it's boarded up.) The only restaurants open are the rooftoop steakhouse, the chinese restaurant on 10th floor, the buffet place, and the restaurant on ground floor next to the bakery.
  6. Stayed here for 3 nights. Paid $143 cad per night via agoda. (after all taxes + fees) Overall, a nice clean room with a comfortable king sized bed. Location is great as it is right next to Nana BTS and NEP is right around the corner. I can't really complain considering the price I paid for this room. Originally I was looking at Sofitel but it is double the price. The only thing I would nitpick is that the tv reception is bad as well as a limited selection of channels, but let's be real. You aren't here for the tv. Breakfast is included. It's buffet style located at the lobby level. Decent quality. There's western, Chinese, and some Indian/middle western stuff i think. If you stuff yourself you can skip lunch haha. They tell you that you only need to tell them your room number out front, but they didn't tell you that you need to flag one of the staff to get you a table. I thought I could sit anywhere at first and I ended up sitting at someone else's table by mistake. There were also times where someone sat at my table by mistake. It can get busy in the morning so I've seen it happen a few times to other people, so I think they can work on better communication in this area. When I come back from Samui in a fwe days, I'll be staying at a different hotel that is in a even MORE convenient location. PS: I tried to attach an pic of the room but it's upside down for some reason. https://imgur.com/glUeAaC
  7. yeah, can't go wrong with anywhere near Terminal 21. You'll be close to BTS and MRT.
  8. I had bad experience with airbnb so I would avoid them. Was on a trip to Japan with a group of friends and the place we booked at canceled on us at the last minute. Had to scramble for hotels but since it was tourist season everywhere was full. In the end we had to stay at various capsule hotels during those 2 weeks. It was not fun.
  9. ^I stayed there too and I pretty much agreed with what you said. There are blinds in the bathroom for those that want some privacy. The room I stayed at didn't have the same view from the bed as yours though since the bathroom was facing away but the glass wall is still there.
  10. I personally prefer staying near asoke where you are close to both BTS and MRT, as well as Terminal 21. It's within walking distance from Thermae and soi cowboy. If you bf girls at nana, it's only a short cab ride away.
  11. I stayed here for 3 nights and i like it a lot. I booked via agoda and i paid just under $65 CAD a night. The room is clean with a hard wood floor. The entire building is non smoking which was one of the reasons i booked it. Bathroom includes a rain showerhead and provides basic amenities such as toothbrush and shampoo. Theres a kettle with complimentary coffee and tea. Location is second to none. It is right next to pedestrian overpass that connects to Asoke BTS and terminal 21. MRT is also right around the corner. Soi cowboy is a block away. Thermae is also a short walk away. When i picked up a girl there, we just walked back towards my room. Theres a family mart very closeby if you walk towards soi 23. My room was on the 2nd floor facing the adjacent building but road noise was never an issue. The lobby is on the 2nd floor, so you can skip the lobby if you bring back a girl. And yes, guest friendly. The only thing you can nitpick is that it lacks a pool and gym. However, for a 3 star hotel, the bang for the buck is very high. Unless you are looking for upscale hotel, I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Pros: location price clean guest friendly Cons: lack pool and and gym EDIT: added pics
  12. that breakfast makes Dennys or IHOP look like 5 stars...
