  1. An article to give all Arsenal fans optimism - if it's true - we're preparing to take advantage of Martin Jol heading to Fulham by spending £42million for Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, and Luis Suarez. The details can be found here. And if that's not enough, we're also linked with French starlet striker Loic Remy.
  2. For all those members who are (or will be) in the London area in late July, this may be of interest ............... http://www.thaifesti...g.uk/index.html
  3. Some BMs have asked about Mods and Admins issuing warnings. The member's warning system is a function that puts a member user on notice for minor indescretions but that are not enough for an ourtright ban. It also allows the Admins & Mods to see whether another Admin / Mod has also addressed the offending poster's topic and when, so that the poster is not punished twice (or more) for the same offence. Every user starts with a warn level of Zero (0) %. Boardies can only see their own warn levels - only Admins and Mods can see other members' warning history. To see the reason for a warning, click on the link marked "Warn Status" under your profile page. Clinking on the link opens a new page showing you, as a member, which Admin or Moderator issue the warning to you and why. The Admin / Mod should have entered a reason at the time of your warning - if not, ask an Admin or Mod find out for you. Offences typically resulting in warnings are (in no particular order): - Insults against the Thai Royal Family - Racist Commentary - References promoting illegal drug use - References promoting violence - Reference to promoting Paedophilia (kiddie-fiddlers) - Homophobic Commentary - Sexually explicit content (except in Forum areas where this is permitted - for Advanced Members only) - General threatening or tasteless messages, abusive or personal attacks against other members, moderators and administrators (bans are at Admin / Mod discretion) - Advertising goods and /or services without Admin authorisation (NB: Moderators CANNOT grant permission for this). - Flaming If you are warned and ignore the warnings, then once the warning level reaches 100% you will find yourself facing a temporary account ban of at least 1 month and possibly a permanent one (the duration is at the Admin's/Mod's discretion, and is based on the boardies' personal account history). Note that if you protest against warning in the open forum, that will result in you receiving another warning. Any disputes against a ban should be sent to the Admin or Mod who issued the warning direct for consideration. Warnings can remain against your account for 30, 60, 90 or 120 days (depending on the offence), after which time they may be reduced or removed at the discretion of the Admin / Mod Team. However, please be aware that extreme cases result in an automatic and outright ban - this is non-negotiable. This thread should be read in conjunction with the forum rules. Please read the rules to ensure that you stay 'on-side'. Rgds Jaco
  4. And that's part of the problem. There are times when players need to win 'dirty' or just shoot to score. We just don't do it!! Great to watch when it comes off though!!
  5. Losing 3-2 to Wigan confirms Arsenal's position in 3rd. We are definitely out of the title race now. As I've said often in the past on PA, Wenger must invest in 3-4 quality players in the summer. I know Vermaelen and Fabregas are injured but we should be beating the likes of Spurs and Wigan. Fabianski & Silvestre have no place in the squad & must be moved on. Eboue and Campbell can be remain as bit-part squad players for us. The over-reliance on young players is evident. Wenger must act soon or his own position may come into question in what is now our 5th trophy-less season.
  6. Been there myself and can vouch for what you say. Met a nice 18 yr old cutie called Pee there for a couple of short-times back in 2006. Great memories!
  7. I banned Fumba - other Mods picked up on the other aliases. If you or any other BMs see spam, please let the mods and admins know. Tks.
  8. Got the same thing & replied to her before reading this thread. She was using BM name "Fumba". I've banned that a/c too.
  9. Useful thread. Do any boardies have any methods, remedies or strategies they wish to share re: handling jet-lag??
  10. Tks Fly - have replied to your PM!
  11. Spotify is a new (well - not so new) way to enjoy music. It's P2P software (peer to peer just like LimeWire or eMule) and its a music streaming service that allows instant listening to specific tracks or albums, with virtually no buffering delay. Music is browsed by the artist, or album, or by record label or by created play lists as well as by direct searches. Spotify is currently only available from IP addresses in Spain, the UK and a handful of other countries, although after signing up it can be used from almost anywhere. A link to the Spotify site is here : http://www.spotify.com/en/ Spotify used to give free invites (there's a standard paid subscription service) but most of them have been shared out & used. If any BMs have spare free Spotify invites left and would like to give a fellow music lover (ie: me!!) a boost, please PM me. Cheers!
  12. Thanks for info. Maybe other Boardies can fill in their views of this place too?
  13. Big game for Arsenal over the weekend peeps? Any predictions on the result? J
  14. Loso mate! Didn't see the game myself but by all accounts we were out-muscled (again). Seems to be that when we're not allowed to play our usual game by the opposition and things get physical, some of our boys go missing. I keep saying we need reinforcements in January and this result is proof positive. We need to win our next two games against Liege and then Chelscum (who are looking awesome, though I hate to admit it!!)
  15. Thanks for the info. What's the speeds you usually get out there on that tariff?
  16. Ever tried the Plaza Athenee? Pricey but is my fave hotel in BKK. Good service and never had any problems bringing the chicas in..............
  17. Steady on me old mucker!! Flying pigs? I thinketh not old son!! Is it too much to ask for Merida to get a game or two? Or for Arsenal to get a decent centre-half (Hangerland) in case the Verminator and Billy G get injured or suspended? I simply don't want to Senderos in an Arsenal shirt again and Silvestre is clearly way past his ManUre pack - and even then he was injury-prone. Don't forget we were strongely (and officially) linked with Melo before he signed the extension to his current deal with Fiorentina. The right fee - I'd say £25m - could get his contract torn up and Melo in our red and white doing a Vieira act for us. So it's not fantasy football I'm talking!! Re: Huntelaar he was sold to AC Milan by Real Madrid in the summer and even though he's reportedly "unsettled" at the moment, it'll take silly money (or a deal involving a player we shouldn't be selling - eg: Cesc, RVP or Rosicky (he's in the final year of his Arsenal contract) - to make such a deal happen. Ribery is the only player you're right about (which is why I never mentioned him) - Bayern want £80m for him. Can you ever see Arsenal paying £80m for one player with our stadium to pay for and Wenger's 'play the kids' policy? It took long us long enough to get the £18m together to buy Arshavin !! What do you make of the Kroenke takeover saga?? I think it's good if he buys the club as he never interferes in team affairs in any sports clubs he owns (albeit in the USA) and has enough dough (approx. £3bn) to dip into the transfer market while the clubs revenue pays for the stadium and not get us more in debt. Usmanov is an asset stripper who would quickly have us in the same situation as the Dippers and ManUre. He'd have to borrow money to finance any takeovers for which he'd use the clubs assets (stadium, real estate and players) as collateral as his cash is tied up. That said, I don't mind him being a minority shareholder. Having two real billionaires (unlike the two US wankstains at Liverpool) on our board is better than one or none.
  18. Yes indeed. Caught this one on Sky so saw the whole match. After the usual first 20 minute's onslaught from Wolves, we settled into our usual pattern of play and really should have had 5 or 6. We were that good yesterday. Eduardo's chip and goal No3 with that neat pass from RVP to Cesc were both pure class!! Plus we've still got the game in hand over Chelscum and ManUre after they play today. I'm hoping for a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 to ManUre. It's still way too early for title talk but I still think Chelscum will be Champs this term. BTW did you catch the papers today? An article in the NOTW links us with Wolfsburg's Bosnian midfielder Misimovic. Wenger's offered £6m but they want £12m. Don't know anything about him. The 2 players I'd like to see added to the squad in January are Hangerland (Fulham) and Melo (Fiorentina). I'd also like to see Merida play more in the first team this year.
  19. Just saw this. Been out of commission for a few days with exam and to top it, I've got a cold coming on!! Sheeeaaat!!! Have to agree about our last match!! Looking good but let's put it into perspective - it's AZ Alkmaar we're talking about. If we win v Standard Liege we're through to the last 16 and that's what counts!!! Let's hope we don't slip up against Wolves.......................
  20. Great - the addiction is spreading .....................
  21. Great result & three points in the bag which keeps us up there with ChelScum and ManUre. It's a bit premature to talk about where we will finish yet but the points will do our prospects the world of good. We've also got the likes of Walcott, Nasri and Rosicky to come back into the team so things are looking good for us. RVP is on fire at the moment and Song is growing into his holding role. I'd also like to see Fran Merida involved more in the 1st team in the league. Give the boy a chance Arsene!! I'd still like to see those 2-3 old heads come into the squad in January. I also note that Hangerland (Fulham) still hasn't signed a new contract. Are you listening Mr. Wenger !!!
  22. I have to agree with you mate. I'm hoping for a good game and for a 2-1 or 3-1 win for the Arsenal. At the end of the day , it's still only 3 points to play for. Robbie Keane said this week their squad is better than ours - but on what basis? A run of a few games this season. We sent our kids out this week (11 changes from last Saturday) and still beat a good Liverpool side 2-1 by a measure of comfort. Where Spurs have to do better is against the so-called 'smaller' teams (eg: Stoke - ha, ha!!) - they're still too inconsistent to be a top-4 side. Their two best defenders (King & Woodgate) spend most of the season in the treatment room. Redknapp will have to sort that out if he's serious about bringing Champ Lge footy to Spurs. If Spurs are in the top four by Feb / March next year, or even by some miracle finish above Arsenal this term, then I'll take them more seriously. The difference between Arsenal and Spurs is that the North London Derbies are their cup finals and they still see themselves as our rivals. They haven't been rivals to us since since the 1980's. To us, this fixture is just another game and points to put on the board. Our rivals are the other three of the big four teams. Today's result, whichever way it goes, ain't gonna change that! Any team in the Prem can beat any other on their day and fact that all of the 4 teams have already lost 2 games at this stage in the season (and results like the Spurs v Stoke game) is proof of that. I will take a radio with me to check on the result as I'm going to see my cousin in hospital later (she's also a Gooner!!) ........ we can discuss tomorrow if you're around.
  23. Good points, especially about Song & the African nations cup. We have no direct replacement for him. Diaby thinks he's a forward and Denilson isn't hard enough - at least Song gets stuck in. Vermaelen is a leader and I can see him captaining Arsenal at some stage in the future. I liked the way he went forward looking for the equaliser after we conceded the 1st goal v Blackburn. A top class player. I was also interested to see Ade's remarks in the media today about being 'driven out' by Arsenal and finally saying sorry for what he did to RVP. Both statements are complete bollox. Arsenal has just announced a £45m profit - it makes you think just what exorbitant amounts in wages he must have been demanding and its well known that he and RVP couldn't stand each other so he had a motive. Personally, I'm glad it was RVP that signed the new deal with Arsenal & that Ade was sold rather than the other way around. Personally, getting £25m for him was good business. He's worth no more than £12m - £15m tops. Ade is a 24-carat cunt and always will be seen that way by Gooners after his exploits at Eastlands.
  24. ARSENAL 6 - BLACKBURN 2 Arsenal's 6-goal whipping of Blackburn Cesc Fábregas confirmed himself as the King of the Emirates on Saturday with a stellar display - but all of the team did well. Considering this all took place in front of Thierry Henry, who made a pre-match appearance to celebrate Wenger's 13 years as our boss it was majestic. But it is Blackburn and they did put 2 past us and we were lucky not to have a pen against us and Vermaelen sent off. Even as a Gooner I had some sympathy with Big Sam's moans about that after the match. At least we're picking up points against the more junior Prem sides. The acid test is when we play any of the others in the big-four, Spurs & Villa and get the return visits of Man Citeh and Manure. We're still short of 2-3 class experienced heads, especially that central midfield enforcer a la Vieira. Wenger could do worse than put the free-scoring Vermaelen in midfield and buy Hangerland from Fulham in the January transfer window for the back-4. Thomas's quality passing and eye for goal could be better served in the Arsenal engine-room. What do other Arsenal fans think of this idea ????? J2
  25. Like tonight's 2-0 win over West Brom. We should have scored more. The kids did well for us. Sanchez Watt and Carlos Vela got the goals.
