  1. The vans are coffins on wheels. Get a Camry.
  2. Immigration police raided a lot of these Sukhumvit Airbnb places a month or two ago.
  3. http://www.silomclinic.in.th/ This place is the best and it's completely free. Just read how it's funded and run to find out why - thanks Uncle Sam! It's history goes back to the US Govt opening and funding a locally run clinic for all the US personnel in country during the Vietnam war when they needed to treat them for STI's outside of the official US systems for obvious reasons. Oh, only thing is you have to say you're gay, bi, or like ladyboys to use it and they don't treat women.
  4. True, and there's Phachara and Dynasty Grand on Soi6 for similar prices. By comparable i was meaning other big chain 4* places.
  5. Yeah that's same sorta price as comparable hotels. It's a great location for nightlife and daytime shopping, easy to get to the malls etc. I would def book it just cause it will be all new and fresh and have al the latest spec DT stuff and tech in all the rooms etc.
  6. Looks like it maybe. I never stayed at Majestic Grande or on Soi 2 so can't say for sure.
  7. Bit closer to the action than the one on Soi 26. https://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hotels/thailand/doubletree-by-hilton-bangkok-ploenchit-BKKSODI/index.html
  8. It's very good. The building isn't as big but they've tried (and mainly succeeded) to recreate the same style. Inside they have all the decor and fitments etc they had saved in storage from the old place and they even managed to track down a consignment of the long out of production terracotta floor tiles in a Spanish warehouse. Upstairs on the balcony on the corner sofas is a lovely place to lounge the evening away.
  9. That's what I do, did it over NYE at DoubleTree Bangkok, 20,000 points a night when the room rate was way above normal because of NYE etc. Booked 4 nights, 5th night free. Didn't get the usual free room upgrade though as the hotel was fully booked but the standard rooms are nice enough. You can also use the pool and facilities at the Soi24 Hilton if you want.
  10. You won't find as nice as Landmark for same price, def not for 100 Euro's in the Nana area. There's a brand new Novotel on Soi4, like just opened, and it has a cool roof bar too. Coming up at about 60 Euro's a night booking direct for a random night a couple of months ahead right now when i just checked. 10% off that if you're an Accor club member. I'd stay there just because everything is new, fresh, will be working, not worn out and you know the aircon will be clean and crisp. Staff will still be trying to impress too, probably being overseen by someone from HO for the first couple of months. From their site - "Novotel Bangkok Sukhumvit 4 is located in the heart of the bustling business and entertainment district in Bangkok. Only a short walk from the Nana BTS SkyTrain station, it is ideal for both business and leisure travelers with easy access to bars, entertainment venues, shopping malls. The hotel features 185 rooms, a contemporary restaurant, swimming pool, fitness centre and Rooftop Bar with stunning 270 degree views of Bangkok. The hotel provides an on demand shuttle service."
  11. Reopening on Soi 11 very soon, awesome :D https://coconuts.co/bangkok/food-drink/exclusive-hemingways-reopen-soi-11-january-weve-got-details/
  12. I like the new top floor and roof bars too. Nice relaxed atmopshre and they can make decent cocktails.
  13. That would be absolutely amazing if true. That has made my day, thank you :)
  14. Yeah a big drawback to get back late at nigh from Sukhumvit, especially on wrong side of river. You will be asking a few taxi drivers to take you before one does and then good luck with getting it on meter. A lot of girls won't go back there also, way too far and away from where they live to get back to as well.
  15. Seven hours ahead of whatever UTC time they are on, six hours ahead of BST time and five ahead of CEST.
  16. Gullivers Soi5 have the biggest screen, dozens of other screens, and is prob the nicest place mentioned so far. Yes it does have FL's there in the daytime too :)
  17. So much changed in just a few years on Soi 11! Bed was actually taken down piece by piece, sold, and rebuilt on Soi 13 (I think), it didn't stay open long and is still there afaik. How much must that have all cost $$$, crazy money lost. Still miss Q bar, had some great nights there. The new Cuban bar with the amusing telephone box entrance is fun, shame they started charging on Fri/Sats and you don't get to do the secret agent style entrance anymore 555.
  18. Great for getting stuff repaired, and honest too ime. I actually got directed to the official manufacturer repair outlet when the usual places there could not get part to fix a laptop as it was too new. The kicker was the manufacturer place couldn't get the part either 555.
  19. Roof bar for view go to Octave at Marriott Thonglor. Roof bar for music (check schedule), atmosphere, cheaper food/drinks and near to Nana/Cowboy etc go to Above Eleven on Soi 11. Classier bars full of girls and FL's...... not many. Barsu at Sheraton Sukhumvit, Maggie Choos on Silom, and Spasso at Grand Erawan are probably the sport of thing I think you're looking for although Barsu isn't busy. Titanium on Soi22 is worth a look too, v good live band. For clubs in your short time frame just go to Levels and Insanity on Soi 11.
  20. Semester ends in middle of July. Thu/Fri afternoons/evenings best. If you really want to put some effort in then find out the graduation days for Uni's, then go to Benjakiti park in the mid-late afternoon. There will be hundreds of them, all dressed up to the nines having pics taken.
  21. Dynasty Grande Soi6, v quiet, big rooms, well run, good sized pool and you'll often have it to yourself.
  22. I'd only use Thai or Bangkok Airways now. Both fly from BKK (DMK too busy now and a lot stricter on entires back in) and both proper well run airlines. I did used to include Air Asia in this category (although flying from DMK) but since the crash I rule then out. Tony Fernandes has just revealed his true colours too and then had to massively reverse ferret which was funny.
  23. It's a bit of a Star Wars bar. The only late night FL club left now I think. The crowd seemed a bit more errr diverse than usual when I was there earlier this year. Get a cab don't walk there or back at the sort of times you'll be going/leaving there. I would advise going in, getting a drink, finding a girl and Foxtrot Oscaring it back to your hotel or a short time room straight away. I'd lean towards a short time room tbh. Any girl who looks at you and doesn't instantly look away is a FL who is interested. Say hello. Ask if they're here for fun or if they're working or words to that effect. Do whatever 2 min interview you have or like to use with girls. Prices are all over the place I find, the black girls are cheapest and the fake Russians the dearest. Opening offers for LT will likely be 3000-6000. Knock 1000 off whatever they open with straight away. Pay whatever you're comfortable and happy with, their is no "right" price imo.
