  1. Flying out next Sunday on Oman Air, can't wait

  2. I think that place has changed, it used to be a French cafe type place when I lived in Silom. I actually worked in Convent Road at the other end from Mollys. Lived in Sathorn Road at Fraser Suites. Miss Mollys, but also spent a lot of time in the Duke of Wellington further down Silom Road. Got a message from O'Reillys recently regarding the trouble, hope you and everyone stay safe. Have kept in contact with Thai colleagues and to date they've been ok.
  3. Obviously a bullshitter, anyone who served in Special Forces would ever let people know, and as for his Bloody Sunday comments, hope he cops a bullet.
  4. Pleased it helped, Good Luck and as long as you're sensible you should have no problems whilst on holiday, just "try" to follow any advice. Cheers
  5. Hi, the attached link will help answer your questions on travel and storage. The company doesn't sell medicines, but they have links with a company in Thailand called OLIC, who supply most chemists throughout Bangkok. I'm sure you'll be fine and also recommend you speak to your local Diabetes centre. http://www.medtronicdiabetes.com/help/lifestyle/index.html#43 Good Luck
  6. As you don't say which country you're from, it's difficult to give accurate advice. Coming from the UK, I just get the stamp in my passport that states I'm a tourist and can stay up to 30 days, which is free on arrival. When I worked in Thailand I got a multiple entry visa for a year from the Thai embassy in London which cost £100 at the time (2008), which enabled me to get a work permit.
  7. Being outside of Thailand at the moment, the only thing we hear about the "troubles" in Bangkok are snippets on the news or in the paper. I was there in 2008 when the Yellow shirts were demonstrating and eventually blocked the airport. Hope everyone in BKK at the moment is not being affected, and not facing too many disruptions. Good Luck to all and let's hope it's all sorted for when I'm back in July
  8. For what it's worth, this map shows the proposes line with connections http://www.urbanrail.net/as/bang/bangkok.htm
  9. Surprised by peoples faces when I say I'm going to Thailand, if they'd been, they wouldn't be surprised. Just annoyed I didn't listen to others years ago, wouldn't have missed out on all those years.

  10. Planning for July

  11. There's a really good Italian in Convent Road, just off Silom Road near Saladaeng BTS. It's just by Molly Malones (Irish Exchange) and on the corner opposite the Swiss Lodge Hotel. I've had the Calzone in there and it's as good as any I've had in Europe, sadly it's name escapes me at the moment and not sure how they cook, but the food has always been good.
  12. For a great night out with food and entertainment try Tawangdang, it's a huge place near Rama 3. Holds about 1500 people, probably 90% Thai and they are having a ball. It brews it's own beer as well, it's a German style beer hall with all sorts of entertainmnet, from singers and dancers to magicians and acrobats. The food is good as well, mainly due to the mostly Thai crowd. Most nights it's at least 80% full a swell, so always a good atmosphere.
  13. I used to live next door to the one on South Sathorn Road, but only ever had a drink there. Friends said the food was excellant there as well.
  14. Try this link, it's off Silom road on the opposite side from Patpong, great English pub close by Duke of Wellington. http://www.hqhostel.com/
  15. Thanks for that, I've booked up through Booking.com, can't remember how much but it's always good to hear comments. Spent a bit of time in the Australian bar when I was over in November, back in February and can't wait.
  16. I spent 8 months at the Fraser suites on Sathorn Road, great apartments and spotless too. No problems for overnight guests either, and just over five minute walk to Patpong, although a few hours in Molly Malones was inevitable.
  17. Angelwytch in Nana put on a really good show last year, A lot of work went into the routines, which made it a good night
  18. I was working there last year for 8/9 months and opened an account with the Bank of Ayudeha (spelling) it's the one with the big yellow signs. I only needed a passport and proof of address and walked out with an ATM card after 10 minutes and even inputted my own pin number there and then. I had money paid in from the US and never had any issues. Be interesting when I go back next month as approx 30,000 Baht was paid in after I returned, so not sure how the account will be as it's been inactive since January with no other monies going in or out.
  19. Stayed at Nana hotel once, was actually already staying elsewhere in BKK, but couldn't be bothered to take a cab back. Booked in for the one night and was surprised at the standard, perhaps I got a recently renovated room. The Majestic around the corner is a nice enough place, when I was there at Christmas time, was actually invited to the staff party.
