  1. To work every mobile phone needs to know your location (well the cell you are in) and by measuring signal strength from near by cell your approximate location in that cell can be found. Yes lots of things are possible but the resources to do it can be vast. The computer processing and storage you would need would be significant and with millions of visitors a year the staff you would then need to review the data very expensive. Like many things such data collection is useful it you want to track a person after an incident or follow a person of interest but real time surveillance of all phones would be unrealistic
  2. There are now no direct flights from Bangkok to Clark these ended about 3 years ago. I think only Singapore and Hong Kong have direct flights to Clark. Personally I prefer Philippines Airways for flights between Bangkok and Manila especially if you have an onward flight from Manila to elsewhere in Philippines.
  3. I have to agree with Diabolic why spend all that money when a condom is much better and protects against more things. Some time back I saw some data that indicated for a man the risk of getting HIV from 1 off straight sex with an HIV infected girl was quite low provided there was no damaged skin on your cock. Not that I will take the risk and I cover up. I believe the HIV virus is not very robust luckily and can only survive in limited situations.
  4. Some time back the Thais changed the rules and you needed to show some ID to buy a sim card so you could no longer pick up a sim from a 7/11 store. This is the same in many countries for example Australia where you need to some ID with an address or produce a passport if you are a visitor. In January 2016 they were giving out free sim cards at the airport but these were only valid for a short while once you activated them but this was not happening in May 2016. This sounds like an extension of this scheme but with some added registration. The bad news was and maybe still is the rates you get on these so called tourist deals are very poor. To work any mobile phone needs to know what cell you are in and even if you use your home country sim they will know your location down to the cell you are in which on the city can be a very small area. The problem is how do you manage or use all the data you are going to collect. I doubt if even the Thais will have the resources to do this unless you contact a known or suspected person of interest. Very useful for putting together what contacts were made after an incident but you only need to watch the movies to see the bad guys always ditch their cell phones after the deed is done.
  5. I am sure the hidden agenda is to close down Cowboy and maybe Nana to allow the developers to move in.
  6. Be very careful. A stayed there about 10 years ago and when I tried to take my guest to my room was told a very firm NO. As I was leaving with her the doorman said if I went to my room alone for 500B in a few minutes my guest would join me. I did not take him up on the offer and we went to another hotel for the night. The next morning I checked out and have never been back. Given the number of times I visit BKK they have lost a large amount of income!
  7. Yes prices have gone up greatly over the years but the attitude of the girls has become much worst. Go back 15 years when the girls and the bars were about providing fun times for you and the girls enjoying themselves while making a modest income. Now it is all about hard nosed business making as much as you can for as little as possible. BKK is trading on past reputation but this will not last for ever. When I started to go to BKK I was paying about 1/3rd of the price of a beer at home and I was getting pretty girls thrown in now a beer in Cowboy or Nana costs more than I pay at home. Why would you spend the airfare and hotel costs for this?
  8. Yes there is always a risk taking any medication and even if it is prescribed by a doctor there is still a risk as each person is different. However, for any modern drug to get into the market there has to be extensive safety testing which means fro the vast majority of people the risks are minimal. I have just looked at an over the counter cold medication that requires no doctors prescription to purchase. The list of possible side effects and warnings on the enclosed paperwork would worry many people but the drug company is just covering themselves. I have only used these medications once when a mate gave me one to try. After being in BKK for 7 days I was starting to loose energy and it certainly did what it said on the tin. Side effect none.
  9. Agreed their spelling is not always good but locals can cope with mis spelt words just as we can in our native tongue.
  10. Why gamble with unknown things you get from a street trader? What ever is written on the box is totally meaningless and you could be buying chalk or worst. So called herbal tablets are largely hype. If you need some pills to help you keep the pace up go to one of the pharmacists mentioned on the forum. It is likely to be no more expensive and more likely to work! Do you also want a gold Rolex well see the same street trader!
  11. Agreed the over the counter medications you can get in LOS is not like the west/Oz. Self medication or the pharmacist just giving you something is very very common. Thai logic why pay a doctor to tell you what pills to buy when you can ask the pharmacist for free
  12. I am sure for the quantities you are talking about the pharmacies mentioned on the site would be able to do a deal. Most do not buy is such quantities so have now idea what discount would be on offer. Not my direct concern but if you are thinking about taking these to another country I would be very very careful as you cannot claim this is for personal use.
  13. Also know you Thai numbers at least 1 - 10 plus hello and goodbye (which are the same word), thank you and please (there are several words for please depending on the situation.) also the get out of jail saying Mai ben rai - meaning not a problem.
  14. I do not think they have put up signs in Asok Road so the tiles might not apply there, it is a free for all crossing the road coming out of Cowboy
  15. Yes it is on Sukhumvit and it carries a fine if you are caught. Needless to say the locals appear to disregard this without any penalty but tourists will be targeted and expected to pay up. That said there are plenty of crossing points
  16. Thais say we speak English too fast for them to understand. I have found most Thais very willing to help you if you say to want to learn. They do not have tenses as in English you are expected to understand from the context. The do have words for future (I will go - ja bai), before (goohn) and already (laeho). While I know many Thai words so I can ask for things I find difficult to make Thai sentences in the correct way.
  17. Just like any city on the world how much you pay for food dependes on where you choose to eat and what you choose to order. As people have already said in a food court in a shopping mall you can eat all you want for under 200B in fact I would say you can get a good meal for 100B. Street food which is equally good will again cost about 100B. If you are concerned about street food or the food courts there are some nice places to eat in T21. I have eaten there recently and a meal for 2 will cost you under 1000B even with drinks.
  18. A very difficult subject to get any firm peer reviewed data on for obvious reasons. However, I believe for a male having unprotected vaginal sex with a HIV positive female the chances of contracting the infection are quite low (1 in several thousand) but that assumes you have no wounds/cuts on your cock. Rememebr 1 in several thousand does not mean you will be safe doing it once or twice as the infrection is equally likely to happen on the first or the thousandth occassion. The virus has to get into your blood through a break in the skin. Anal sex is much more likely to cause the skin on your cock to be broken/damaged than vaginal sex hence the risk is much greater. If you are covered up then this lowers the risk considerably but just like any STD it will not be zero.
  19. Based on my expereinces while most hotels will ask for her ID few actually look closely at them. They certainly do not check closely if the picture on the ID card matches the person. Most hotels just pop them into a box and some do not even link then to a room number. I always make a point of giving the security bloke a big tip on the first night he then watches out for you. A few years back I took a girl from a bar in Nana and when we got to the hotel "my mate the security guard" looked at he ID and pointed at her age with the comment up to you - she was matched back to the bar and with no fuss the mamasam allowed me to take another girl.
  20. There are some karaoke places there that from the look of the girls might include extras. However, they appear to have only local customers in them and I am not sure how well westerners would go down. If in doubt as a taxi driver as they always know where any action is. You might not get the best place on the first try but you will find out where the nightlife area is so can then look about.
  21. Sorry, most evenings the traffic gets bad with Friday and Saturday are about the worst. How did it go and what was the fare as up to date knowledge is worth sharing.
  22. Agreed. While it is getting a little tired and sometimes the rooms are a bit noisy a good place to stay close to Nana and a very competitive price. For me the noise from the street can be a positive as It wakes me up nice and early for some morning fun!
  23. Friday at that time could see a lot of traffic jams so the price could be more.
  24. I am not one to give valid comment as I have only tried a pill once. I am sure it was the real thing as a mate gave it to me and he got it from his doc back home. Only side effect was a had a mouth as dry as a desert when I woke up the next morning worked fine and did what is said on the tin!
  25. Or a taxi company looking for business hence her look when you went off in a car.
