  1. I just had a son born on Jan 22, 2012, and we had him circumsized. My Filipina wife and I witnessed the procedure. I would not recommend it to any adult. It looks extremely painful.
  2. So far Dawin or Citichic look about the best for me. Thanks everyone.
  3. I am taking my wife to BKK this March. I know, I can just hear what you all are thinking, but we will be doing some barhopping and I might get some freedom while she goes shopping. I have stayed before at the Dawin, and Citadines on soi 23...any recommendations for a hotel near Nana or Soi Cowboy or one of the mid-range places in between?
  4. i stayed there twice and if you need a place to stay for a 5=6 hour sleep before getting back on the road, its a decent enough place. I got in at 1 AM and flew back out at 7AM; in that case it works. Another time I had company with me and I was putting her onto a 530AM flight. In those cases it works fine. If you are arriving late at night and going to stay in BKK for a day or more, then take a taxi into BKK. Late night is the best time to avoid BKK's traffic.
  5. I leave from my house in Florida usually between 4 and 5 AM, to go to the airport, after typically not being able to sleep the night before. The flight then goes to Detroit, or Atlanta, with a layover, then the long trip over Canada, and Alaska, then down to Japan, with a short layover; and then on to Bangkok, or Manila, with arrival at around 11PM the day after I left. After luggage and immigration is out of the way, its time to deal with the taxi and the hotel before I get a chance to relax, and by then it is in the early hours of day number 3 of my trip, by the local time. There is no possible way to not be affected by a jolt to your system like that. Back in the States, daylight savings time throws everyone out of wack for days and sometimes weeks, and that is a one hour change without travel. I drink lots of water, and I sleep when able, but the best thing you can do is to just try and ignore it and not dwell on it too much.
  6. For daytime sidewalk fare, there are several good choices near suk on soi 18. Early in the morning the older thai couple right in front of the spirit house close to the BMW dealership serves a great morning coffee, better than Starbucks. At lunchtime there are several places where tables are set on the sidewalk and the younger office workers tend to eat here. I used to eat on the shady side of the street there. For dinner, I would tend to eat a fuller sit down meal in a restaurant, to get ready for my night time drinking. Then late at night, Foodland around the corner from Nana, or maybe sidewalk noodles around soi 11 would be the way to end my night, depending on what my companion was hungry for, or if I was alone. Street food is almost always cheaper than restaurants.
  7. While staying in Suk soi 11-1, I found some late night noodle stalls that I really enjoyed for a quick bite late at night. After eating there 2 times, the family basically adopted me...everywhere I went in the neighborhood, it felt like I was more and more known. The mother had one son that was a motorcycle taxi driver, and after knowing him I knew most of the motorcycle taxi mafia down on suk soi 11. And known in a good way that made me feel protected. And then around the corner, on suk, as you walk up and down and spend some money, or just by being there, you get a feeling of being known, and appreciated. From Nana down to Soi Cowboy, I walked the streets many times, and felt more and more at home. I too love the street of shame!
