Oh, no, when I saw you booked Grand Suisse I was gonna write and say good choice, but wow.  Back to the drawing board I guess.  Let us know how it turns out.  I wish I had some suggestions but I don't really have personal experience at very many different hotels there.

Right?  I just booked Novatel which slightly edged out Adelphi and Landmark.  It looks like they have a decent gym and I like the location at the intersection of soi 4 and 6.  This is a recon trip so I don't mind staying in different areas and exploring.  My SHA stay is in Asok so I wanted somewhere around Nana.

I will review both after I stay there.

  2. After overanalyzing this to death I booked Grand Suisse because they had an overall rating of 8 out of 10.  Not two minutes after pulling the trigger I got the following email so I'm gonna cancel and start over:

Thank you for choosing Grand Swiss Hotel for your next stay in Bangkok. Please note that our facilities and services are currently unavailable due to some part of the hotel is under renovation. These include food and beverage (restaurants and in-room dining), swimming pool, Fitness center. We apologies for any inconveniences that may cause by the absence of these facilities and services.

    Best regards,
    Reservation team.

Haven't stayed at that Holiday Inn, I do often stay at the Westin on Soi 11, I would recommend it, great location, great buffet as discussed on a different thread

I was looking at the Westin vs. Holiday Inn and see that Westin has a "no refund policy" on Agoda.  I'd like to stay there but I've already had to postpone my trip once and could get hosed.  I'm gonna hit that breakfast buffet for sure though.

  4. I like ThaiPod101 too.  I use it in conjunction with my online tutor from Preply.  The word bank feature is awesome and you can build lists (verbs, nounds, phrases, food & drink etc).

The one weird thing is all the videos start to stick after about 30-40 seconds.  Their tech support cannot figure it out.

  5. Good topic as I've wondered this myself.

It seems like the most non-techie solution is to use the local Thai SIM card in your existing phone for maps, Line, TF, etc then switch the SIM back in your hotel to check on life back in the world.

The dual SIM capability is interesting.  I can check and see if my iPhone 12 has that.   Per Apple, supported 2-SIM networks in Thailand appear to be:

    Thailand

    AIS
    dtac
    TrueMove H

I’d second that recommendation! We tried the bug cafe in SR too and the food actually tasted good! The red ant spring rolls were a particular favourite of mine 🐜

The girl I was with was a vegetarian so it was quite the moral debate.  I mean bugs are alive right?  She ate up in the name of sustainability and insect protein being more environmentally friendly than meat.  LOL.

I know it's weird but fried bugs really taste good. It's exotic, really but its crunch is amazing. I mean, I was hesitant to try it at first but it was amazing once I tried it. They even taste good with seasoning, promise.

Dude, I went to Bugs Cafe in Siem Reap and had quite the experience.  We ate scorpions, crickets, some sort of larvae and a huge "water bug".  I think it was a roach but I ate it anyway.  I'll eat almost anything but that was a challenge.  The night we went they were out of tarantula otherwise I would have had that too.  If anybody is going to Angkor Wat, check that place out.
