  1. I have stayed there many times. Get the right price on AGODA. DO NOT try to rent from the desk. Nice place overall and GREAT location. You can take the Asoke walkway accross the road to walk to NANA or the skytrain. Right behind Cowboy and just great place to set up shop. With the stops from the BIB around the area you can avoid with the stairs right outside the hotel. Sometimes you have to wake the security guard up to get in at night, but not a big deal.
  2. Really!?! These guides are more fun http://www.bkk141.com/gallery.aspx#search
  3. Used Agoda. had a problem with the booking on dates - totally my fault - called the guys and they worked out everything. The site said I was to pay regardless, but they took care of it. I told the guy that it was my fault and would pay the price, but he said I do lots of hotels with them so he talked to the staff over the phone and they all agreed to let me slide! It was cool and the result is I will continue to do business there.
  4. The May roll call is already up (scroll down). I too arrive in LOS about mid May 15-29. Andy hit it right on the head. No need to be paranoid. You do your research here and some other places, you will do fine. You end up in Patts you will take one night just to get the thrill of the place out of your system! Talk about a OVER sensory load! WOW it will blow you away the first time there - OK 3. I have posted some hints about some issues - especially western/Euros that "hang" around the bars - look under scams. Other than that the typical stuff, don't disrespect the king, don't go upstairs and try before you buy.
  5. Any recommendations? I know a good place in Patts, but want a place that can do laser work.
  6. Have seen many write ups on this hotel in the past and all right on the spot. Is moderate digs for the price 1200- 1500 bt depending on your high or low season and how many nights. GF and split buildings if you want to not have to do the walk of shame and go around back. Back is also a little less noisy, but the front was never that bad and you can see the city. Food is weak - breakfast. Beer is cold and you can watch the world walk by...only 30 yards from Nana so good for ST. Staff is friendly 1000bt security for the key. Safe in the room - also nice. They push a deal with Dynasty Patts, a much better hotel. Will post on that board more about it but worth the stay in Patts. BKK is older building and in the "battle zone". Has a barber shop or massage to your room if you want. Better at Annies only three blocks away. Right in the heart of the Nana scene. better than the Nana hotel IMHO.
  7. You will do fine. You did the right thing to have a place to "land" other than that you can work the daily market rate of many fine places. A lot are on this board and will detail issues and noise etc. you have com eto the right place for a true idea of the area and things involved for a comfortable stay.
  8. Ever see the dog near Soi 6? Yep, looks exactly like the dog at Soi 31. Not to mention, the same K-9 in various street venues in Pattaya and Phuket! Yep, see that dog, usually flopped down on the sidewalk with people stepping over “him”, lazying the day away. Not really sure what breed he is - looks kinda like a mix, always well fed, older and wandering around like part of the organizational flummox known as Thailand. Has to be the same dog! I always wondered, how did that animal get here? Is he following me around? Is it the same dog? Has to be! He does not look vicious, in fact, never has “that” dog even raised an eyebrow to me let alone any other passer-by. Maybe he belongs to someone? But, even when I stop for short periods to investigate these life puzzles, I find little information yielding the origin of this creature. At one point, I found myself encouraging the beast to run away - trying to get a rise out of him. Maybe I could see the beginnings of his busy day? I dunno maybe he belongs to that person, or that one? I will ponder this another time, on to the bar! Down the walk I see the typical street urchin poised at his stand almost encompassing the entire 11 foot sidewalk. Of course, everyone is in the queue waiting their turn to pass. Seeing my opportunity I leap forward, only to be shorted out of the gap by an older and slower national from parts unknown. Parsing my lips between my teeth I post my head down and wait my turn – again. All the while, thinking about “that” dog! Wait a minute, there he is again! I swear this animal is following me to every spot I travel…on to the bar! Don’t they have some sort of control for this type of thing? Capture and cage this animal – it is for his own good! Well, I guess it would be for his own good…wouldn’t it? Slowly he seems to be wandering around the street looking for a meal. This should be managed by somebody. Even BKK should have some standards! Never mind, on to the bar! I found myself approaching my favorite stage venue and cannot stop thinking about that creature! Why, I ask myself, do I care so much from that animal? I do care – don’t I? Is it really so bad what he does, all day to lying around and sleeping, doing nothing until summoned? Paying into some custom that fosters the perpetuation of his laziness? I never even heard him bark – ever! In all the communities this beast follows me to; I could swear I have never heard him utter a bark. In fact, he almost looks like he is smiling! Well, forget this – on to the bar! I make it to my final stop still too early to go inside. I guess I will get some Tom Yum and hang out and wait. Found a spot sitting on the curb. I take in the sights of the crowds wandering through a maze of new vendors setting up for the night. Some slowly figuring out the “listed” price is always negotiable in Thailand. It is always amazing to see new faces light up when they secure that “deal”. As I start to get up guess who is sitting right next to me!?! We stare at each other trying to figure out what each is about – where are you from, where are you going, and do you need a friend? Maybe? Or, just a scrap to tide over until the next meal? My examination reveals a pretty healthy looking animal living on the streets of the city seemingly owned by nobody in particular. Your face is not scared in life, you do not even look anxious about your next moment – just relaxed. People do not seem to bother you. They step over, around and stare for a bit, but I do notice there is not a lot of petting. Maybe he has something on him you do not want to get. Who knows? Time to bid farewell to my new acquaintance and get this old dog into the bar!
  9. S Sukhumvit Suites Hotel 403 Sukhumvit Road (Asoke Intersection), Klongtoe Nuea, Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand Great location and nice rooms. Talk about handy spot. you can catch the trains, access the other side of a very busy street and hit the mall and never feel like you have left your room. Good Stuff. Meals were a bit bland with the attempt at western breakfast. - stick with the Thai it is OK. Staff was great and GF with nothing but a smart salute upon returning from the nights festivities. Worth the stay. Be sure not to confuse this hotel with one simularly named a few blocks away - there are a lot of Sukhumvit hotels using the street name.
  10. Amora NeoLuxe Suites 6 Sukhumvit Soi 31 Sukhumvit Road KlongToeyNua Wattana, Bangkok, Thailand Stayed a few days. The staff was OK the plumbing was not. Seems like water pressure is always an issue there. The breakfast was good, but the staff took almost 35 mintes to make a club sandwich. I was on my way out the door and a car waiting for the next leg of the trip so I abandoned what seemed like a simple order with no one waiting. I could go more, but I won't. They are GF and the room make up was fine. The location was a bit odd. This part of town used ot be hot, but it just seemed out of place. Stay again - probably not. Was it bad - not terrible, but there just was no advantage to being here. Access to the STrain was a walk along with every destination.
  11. LOL I love the attmeps at "home cooking" in BKK. the food processing is much different and so the tast. Now the local flavors are out of this world, but they really should stop trying to be like Europe or the Americas..
  12. Wow - what a place Very nice 4 or 5 place with excellent faclilities. Just a short walk from the skytrain and Nana. The room was the size of a house in most places and the same cost of the Dynasty Inn (next to Nana!). Talk about classy. I was upgraded to the Executive suite and will take that as a primary for my next trip. I have bounced around many hotels over the last few years in BKK this is the best so far for location, GF, just felt clean and tidy place all around. Don't feel like you have to shower just to make it by a sketchy front desk. They provide a "tour" desk that is jsut to get the extra star class, but that shows the effort they are trying to take to make the place right. www.patcharasuites.com
