  1. would say that they are all guest friendly in soi 4, I wouldn't worry about it unless your staying in a 5 star hotel (who sometimes charge a joiners fee)
  2. I have been up on the slow train, you can then hire a tuk tuk to take you around the temple. I got a taxi back into Bangkok - but to be honest it was awhile ago so can remember the amount of time it took. Its nice trip if you get chance.
  3. Thanks for the report. A couple of my friends who lived in Pattaya (in the early 30s) have both moved up to Udon, and described it to me as "having everything pattaya has but smaller" - doesnt really sound that way from you report lol. I was debating to go up for a trip one day, think I will give it a miss. Cheers!
  4. Whatever girl you barfine or find for the ST will be able to take you to a room that they know.
  5. +1 I regularly eat at Monsoon on soi 8, and would recommend it. Paella is great, and does wine by the glass at a decent price.
  6. Have stayed at Citidines and Aloft, never had any issues with noise (though I probably pass out blind drunk!)
  7. Dawin Hotel Soi 4 Dynasty Grande Soi 6 Dynasty Inn - soi - but no pool - ask for the new building when booking
  8. I went in to watch the football last month. It was ok, seemed to have quite a few expats in there. Some decent looking girls on the staff. I thought it was a little bit expensive for the drinks, and the service wasn't great.
  9. To be honest, I thought it was the best steak that I have had in a long time. A cheaper (not by much) option is the El Gacho steak houses, which is where I normally go. There is one under Terminal 21 at Asoke, just as you enter soi 21 The second smaller one has recently opened on soi 11. Photo below is a steak from there:
  10. Quick review of the Rib Room and Bar at the Landmark Hotel for anyone interested: The restaurant is located on the top of the Landmark hotel. There are two lifts that access the the place from the lobby. Very nice restaurant, though be aware its not too cheap. Great views as you would expect from the top floor, you can look right down into nana lol! Wine list is comprehensive with bottles on there for over 500k! lol I had the risotto and scallops to start, then the surf and turf for the main ( you have order the side dishes separate, which was vegetables and potato gratin. The girl I was with had the lamb bolognese. We had one bottle of Chilean Red, and some bottle of water. Would definitely recommend the place if you want to treat yourself. I would say the steak there was better than Gachos where I normally go at Terminal 21. Service excellent. Total price: 8300THB
  11. yep, easy to find of both sois. Used to go down there many years ago to the tunnel bar/club (i think it was called that, on the left hand side walking from soi 5).....it was of the only late night spots back in 2004 0r 2005 when the bars closed at 1 am for while.
  12. Both a little pricy, but you can get some good deals on booking.com and agoda etc Grand Millennium - 2 mins walk u the road from cowboy. The Continent Hotel- on the junction of Asoke.
  13. Majestic is a good choice. Other ones you might want to look at Dawin Hotel, soi 4- some photos in Burly Bobs recent trip report. I have stayed there numerous times, nice clean hotel, good location and nice little rooftop pool. Landmark hotel is decent, but its quite expensive. Dynasty Grand on Soi six is a decent hotel, got a big pool and decent gym if you need it.
  14. I went to the Dome at Labua last week (separate one from Sirroco- its under the big dome- obviously) It has a set course menu, which was 5k for a 5 course meal and 7k for a 7 course meal. Portions were very small, my final bill come to 27k- service was excellent, food was excellent - but as I say only small portions. I wouldn't go again to the Dome, but I would like to try sirocco at some point.
  15. No issue with taking one girl back, but don't know about 2. Stayed there a few times, not really sent he security/checkin staff checking too much, and if you are there at a weekend its has a busy lobby with Levels in the front and XYZ bar at the back with lots of foot traffic.
  16. I would say Thais welcome foreigners money, not actually the farangs themselves. I feel there is always an undercurrent of pent up hatred for the farangs by thai guys, especially around the P4P scenes, which can often explode with deadly consequences....... That said I am a jaded expat and have probably been living here too long.
  17. Would say 1200- 1500 if you are grabbing a taxi of the street. if you use a hotel one would think it will be in the 2000 region (but most likely a better car)
  18. Welcome to the board. Not stayed at majestic so can comment, but its in a great location. Landmark Hotel is decent hotel and in a great location (near majestic) on Suk Rd just around the corner from soi 4 and all the action, and just a few steps from BTS stop at Nana. You can get rooms for about 3k a night (60 quid-ish). Cheaper alternative you might want to have a look at is the Dawin hotel which is down Soi 4, got a pool and nice little cafe, but the rooms are quite small. Not sure on the price now but maybe around 1700-2000? Other options you may want to have a look are the Dynasty Grand and Aloft (on Soi 11- so a bit of a trek from the P4P action)
  19. It was a bag from Dubai duty free. Wouldn't be the first time the airport has been known for scams: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8154497.stm Defo customs girl, she was wearing a dark blue uniform Willow.
  20. Yes it was after the customs checking area in the hall, I had been to the ATM, and was slowly walking down when she came up to me. Don't know what the scam was but she wanted to look in my duty free bags? She was wearing a dark blue uniform....
  21. "clearing customs" to me is leaving the baggage hall and going through the "customs" area, where they have an x-ray machine. So...what part of my story is indeed strange?
  22. I arrived this morning into Bkk, and I had a chauffeur drive booked with Emirates. So after clearing customs and going to the ATM in the arrivals area (where people wait for incoming passengers) I was minding my own business walking down to gate 5 where the Emirates drivers hang out, until some customs girl ran up to me and started asking to look in my duty free bags!! To be clear this was well after the official customs check, out in the hall. I just ignored her and carried on walking, but she kept asking to look in my bags! Once I reached the Emirates driver she seemed to give up but was glaring at me until I walked off to the car. Don't know what the issue was, but no doubt some type of scam, so keep an eye out for her if you are inbound.
