  1. 7 days to go - defo need a chill out, been working hard :)

  2. Agoda is great, I have booked hotels down Soi 8 for about $40 (AUD) per night which is fair budget. One is an apartment with kitchen. These kind of prices are available for NEXT NIGHT, so don't ever walk into a hotel to book a room, just use the Net even the day before you need a room. Agoda is approx 50% of walk-in price. Soi 8 is as central as you can get in Suk IMO. The homepage search engine is the best, you can click for Suk, pool, star rating, and it tells you how many results you will get before you click - makes narrowing down what you want a breeze. Watch out for the taxes on Agoda though, they sting you about 20% on top of the advertised price, that can hurt :o
  3. The place is a fun palace to me, I love the street life, always have since hitching to London every chance I got from aged 16, hanging around soho and later tottenham court and kings road. It's kinda like that but with much friendlier people, and enough of them to make you feel safe, certainly less crime. I'd rather be overcharged for service than pure robbed - at least you get something for it lol. The unpredictability despite the predictable, never knowing who you will meet or end up with from one hour to the next. Makes normal life seem exactly that - you know you're alive when you are trekking the Suk :)
  4. Reminds me of the tailors at Suk Soi 8, they touted me for the first 2 days. I'm a scruffy git at best of times, so they thought they had a chance initially. But the usual effort to acknowledge them, say no thanks, and smile as you go past works well. The one good thing about the shopfront touts is that they don't forget your face - they left me alone for the next 25 days lol. Kinda ironic how westerners shirk away from touting, the Thai's would do better to let us look unhindered, I actually like the sound of a linen shirt, may take a look at these suggestions next trip.
  5. I'm surprised by these comments, this is not my experience at all. Quoted $20k in Australia I will get the work done here for $8k. I think you will find general work is cheaper, crowns, extractions, etc. But obviously one or two operations will not make up for the flight and accommodation. When it comes to implants, I think you will find that maybe it is only slightly cheaper, say 25%, but what you may be missing is that the technique is more advanced, for instance they can do 'all on 4' which is a row of top or bottom using only 4 implants, whereas in Aussie you may find that it takes 6 implants, (therefore more money and pain). I also can't see how you will get the care, professionalism or time over quality either - no rushing, consultancy and decision making is free in Thailand - not so in Aussie. There are also lots of extras that you will get burnt with in Australia, for example a bridge may involve 4 extractions and 2 crowns, this is where the cost mounts up, whereas when you take that into account in Thailand, the total is more likely 50% cheaper. I'd suggest you look again and think about the entire package.
  6. Ningnongman your link was messed up - it's a good site though, so for others here it is http://www.bangkokguestfriendlyhotels.com/
