    Thank you for that.

So it turns out you can do 2 border runs per calendar year on a visa waiver - but immigration is cracking down on this.

Next time around I will apply for a multi-entry tourist visa giving me 60 days and can be extended by 30 days.

I think I can do a border run before it expires and get another 60 days - otherwise I will re-enter on a visa exemption 30 days and extend by 30 days.

That would give me between 5 and 6 months in Thailand - though I couldn't open a bank account with this visa configuration.

A bit dumb of me not to prepare before arriving this time 😕

I will go home after my current 60 day visa exemption expires and return next year better prepared.

One thing I don't understand - do you need to book your incoming and departing flights before applying for your visa? What happens if your a denied a visa?

Some banks will allow with the lease only.  However, some will want a lease and the visa showing they match up.

You may want to consider trying a few of the banks, and just tell them you are in the middle of applying for a longer visa.

    Or just hire an agent.

If I take a ferry from Koh Lipe to Langkawi, then fly to Penang and back to Thailand will that get me a new 45 days?

Or do you have to depart and return from airports?

    Thanks

    Yes, that resets it.

No need to go in and out of airports, as long as you see immigration at the border crossing.

Hello everyone going to Bangkok over christams and new years eve holiday for 2022-2023!

Does anyone have any reviews on Grande Centre Point Phloen Chit hotel

    Are they guest friendly

I actually stayed there a few weeks ago for 2 nights.

It is guest friendly.  Just wait in the chairs near the elevator and when the girls walk in they will see you.

If you are bringing them in you do not have to walk past the reception so you are ok to just bring them up.

The Central Embassy is close by: 40 meter walk to stairs to BTS walkway and turn left then it is on the right.

    Many great food options.

Okay, so I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information on prices of living in a nice area in BKK.

My goal is to find a luxury building with month to month rental (6 months max). I want a 2/2 condo with balcony, great view near the BTS.

I am hearing (from youtubers) anywhere from $499/mo to seeing links of $1,500 USD/month. While $1,500 isn't a problem, I think that still sounds high for Thailand.

SO, if I wanted to rent a ritzy 2/2 in Asoke or another hot spot near the railway, what am I realistically looking at? My retirement funds allow me about $5,600/mo in total spending, although I could go over that but don't want to.

While I do not live in Bangkok, I live in Pattaya.

But I was researching heavily when I was considering moving to Bangkok.

What you describe near Asoke would be $1500+ per month.

Unless you get a 2 bedroom that is very small.

Ah I thought he was talking about proper motor shows with aston martin and the like - Yeah there's a lot more on offer for imitation kit/replica cars and japanese/korean style street racing fast and furious type of thing

If thats what he is talking about then I apologize just got tunnel vision for one sort of car show.

If OP fancies going down an interesting rabbit hole there's a whole underground replica industry in Thailand for luxury cars here's a youtube video that should get the algos recommending lots of similar videos

Yes, I figured such. I could have said it more nicely but I was short on time and was not able to edit it properly.

    Cheers.

    Hey guys,

When I was last in Thailand I did not get a chance to see any car or motorbike stuff. Does anyone have any advice on finding these kind of events, meets or races for the next time I go?

I recommend you go to this guy's YouTube channel.

That is all he does is go to car and bike events in Thailand.

They are all over. Unsure what the prior BM is talking about.

Hahaha…it was actually at immigration  as I handed her my passport.

I would assume that they enforce what they stamped on the passport. I usually see a stamp for 30 days visa even when my return flight was not 30 days from entry.

maybe she was smoking some good stuff that day.

You are using some wrong terminology.

The correct term is visa Exempt Entry.

This is from the US Embassy site:

    visa Exempt Entry

U.S. citizens carrying a tourist passport and in possession of an onward or return airline ticket do not require a visa to enter Thailand. The passport must have at least six months validity remaining to be allowed entry.  Upon entry, Thai immigration officials will place an immigration stamp in the passport permitting a 30-day stay in Thailand if arriving by air or land. This time limit may subsequently be extended for an additional 30 days by paying a 1,900 baht fee to the Thai Immigration Bureau office.

I have tmobile and you're right they have international converage but it's just too slow.  Make sure your phone is unlock and buy a sim card from AIS. Cost around $20 usd depending on the package you get.

    Agree.

I have t-mobile and use my internal sim for my USA number at $90 a month (3 lines).

But I have a True Sim for my external SIM for my Thai number.

I pay extra for great data service (600 baht a month?).

I pre pay 10,000 baht at a time so I forget the exact amount.

Go to the taxi rank, get a ticket and go to the taxi that you are assigned.  Make sure they start the meter. Easy.

For taxis when in Bangkok, use the Bolt app.

Edit: If you are on a budget or want to avoid traffic and your hotel is close to the BTS or Metro lines, take the Aiport Rail Link (45 baht) then change to the BTS at the end station.  Efficient and relaxing.

    +1

I’m an US citizen, was planning to do a side trip to Vietnam/PP or get the extension after I land, but someone on a different thread said airline might not let you on the plane to go to LoS if you don’t have a visa, which kinda worries me.

so a couple of questions, has anyone ever heard of problems with Singapore airlines on this front?  And what’s the best way to deal with this?  I wasn’t planning to buy a ticket to Vietnam/PP until I get to Thailand and decide what to do, but should I just buy tickets in case I get questioned by Thai immigration or Singapore airline?

    thanks

You do not need a visa if you have a US Passport.

You get 30 days visa exemption upon arrival.

If you do your side trip to Vietnam you will need a visa for Vietnam.

You do not need a visa for Philippines.

I’m not sure this is accurate. It is being reported that no more test and go applications will be accepted after midnight today. If you already have your pass you are fine but need to take an extra (free) test on arrival. Phuket is the only active Sandbox at the moment. This will all be reviewed on 4th Jan.

Ironically they sent this out in a text message.

Then there was another announcement right after with different information.

    Hello,

I will be in Bangkok in two weeks and would like to get a vasectomy.

Has anyone had this procedure done in Bangkok?  If so, any recommendations on hospital, doctor, etc?  My insurance wont cover it, but I have research the costs and it isn’t too expensive (and cheaper than the alternative!)

    Thank you

    Lev

I did mine in the USA, however i have been to Bumrungrad for other issues and they are clean and very professional.

There are other, less expensive options out there but I would find a place with a good reputation.

Good topic as I've wondered this myself.

It seems like the most non-techie solution is to use the local Thai SIM card in your existing phone for maps, Line, TF, etc then switch the SIM back in your hotel to check on life back in the world.

The dual SIM capability is interesting.  I can check and see if my iPhone 12 has that.   Per Apple, supported 2-SIM networks in Thailand appear to be:

    Thailand

    AIS
    dtac
    TrueMove H

Yes, I have since returned and contacted T-Mobile in the USA and they programmed my main USA number into my e-Sim.

Then when I arrived in Thailand I purchased a mobile plan with True.,  They installed the Sim and now I have two active phone numbers on my i-Phone 11.

You will be able to do the same on a 12 for sure.
