  1. Foreigners are tolerated because they usually have money to spend and are deemed a possible income. Once one is able to understand the Thai language rather than just speak a few phrases, one can hear how racist and how discriminatory most Thais really are towards outsiders. That includes people from the surrounding Asian countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos etc. They are consistently harassed and discriminated against quite openly. If they had money they would be tolerated. As many of us are. It doesn't mean that they like us...

  2. Alas, I just came back and I'm already looking at rates to come back, either in mid-October or mid-December.  I'm definitely looking for more upscale than where I stayed before, Sacha's Uno on Soi 19, nothing terribly wrong with the place - other than needing updating.  I was considering The Dream Hotel, which is a 5* at a reasonable price.

As you've struggled with walking in the heat and don't want to pay taxi fare or motisai rates, Perhaps you could pay a little more and get a hotel on or closer to Sukhumvit, between Cowboy and NEP and all your favorite food places at T21. Maybe check out S15 or On8 rates

  3. May I ask what happens in November?

As the high season gets underway in November places that were great a few weeks ago can become shit as they become busy with low-end tourists groups and the younger backpacker tourists. Also we still do not know the restrictions that will be imposed due to the last monarch's funeral in late October.

  4. In case you were still wondering/looking , here's a pic I took about 2 weeks ago of one of the st hotel rooms at Nana Plaza. I thought it was clean and basic, suitable for what was needed... Cost 3-350 baht for 2 hours (pretty dim photo and it may not look that great but the pic doesn't do it justice. It was fine)

Which hotel was it in nana?

  5. Last night I was craving some pizza, after a long massage session - I felt refreshed, but starving.  Looked online for a pizza joint close to my hotel.  Found one that was rated well on google, Big Mama Pizza.  A few minute walk and the weather had cooled down around 9pm.  Some of those driveways were slanted on the street which made me walk sideways.  What are the city planners thinking?  I guess it goes well with the potholes and huge plants right in the middle of the sidewalk.

Sat down and ordered a personal pizza.  Damn, it was quite large and I could only eat 6 of the 8 slices.  Breakfast for the next day!  Got free flat bread and butter, a mango smoothie and of course - the pizza.  Thin crust with lots of cheese, generous toppings.  I was impressed.  I was looking for parmesan cheese and the pepper flakes I'm used to in North America, nowhere to be found.  Some extra hot ground red pepper was there, I used it sparingly.

I woke up this morning and I realize there is an NFL game I wanted to see.  I found out that The Game near Nana is playing it and they open at 8am.  It's pretty strange having a Heineken at 8am with an omelet...  where I live, we don't serve alcohol until after 11am.  To be honest, the place was overpriced, catering to American tourists, would be my guess.  At least I saw my team win today!

Will not repeat at The Game, as the only draw to me was that they were playing the particular game I wanted to see.  Met a cool guy from the US in there.  The breakfast I ate there looked like a child's portion.  I think I paid 300B for it too.  Ripoff.

Big Mama Pizza, I recommend it.  Not the cheapest, but that pizza would feed 2, easily.

Big Mama, good value and consistently decent food. The Game overpriced rip-off joint owned by the usual boiler room suspects but prime location, so very convenient if you don't care about the food or price.

  6. T21 foodcourt is very overrun with tourists nowadays, eating cheap and sucking up free aircon and they tend to hang out there quite just using the free wifi for ages So tables can sometimes be hard to come by. I suggest that trying the food court in the Tops supermarket under Robinsons as an alternative, although much smaller it less tourist occupied and reasonably priced.

  7. I usually average about 7/8 trips out of Thailand per year on a multi-entry visa and never had a problem or query. However, it does depend on the officer on the counter if said person wants to make any enquiries. The only time (a few years ago) when I had a rude immigration office flick through my passport and count how many entries I had made and ask "Why you come to Thailand so much?" was at the Nong Khai bridge when I was going to visit Laos. I just mentioned that I had a family here and he retorted "ah you have a lot of money, eh?". I replied "No, I don't, that is why I do a land crossing rather than fly." he just gave me a dirty look and said I can go. I did think he was gonna be an arse and mess me about but that was it.

  8. what about indian food, there has to be some good reasonably priced indian food (chicken curry and naan) around somewhere, everywhere down by nana is overpriced

To get inexpensive good Indian food probably best to go to Pharuat area. Sukhumvit is wildly overpriced but there are a few small places between soi 13 and the back entrance to Ambassador Hotel (soi 11) same alley where many of the oily hj massage booths are). Lots of the Indian locals and Indian tourists go to those places if they're staying around Sukhumvit. Food is very good and prices acceptable.

  9. Do they have a washer/dryer to use? Im looking for a cheap place with access to washer/dryers... so far I only know of Grand President on Soi 11 and Phachara Suites on Soi 6.

The Citadines chain has coin operated washing machines and dryers. Most hotel laundry services aren't cheap at all. Just check under hotel facilities. Other than that lots of laundry drops in the tourist areas.
