  1. It is a 5 day holiday and and not much news. There have been many similar statements over the years. Why would you change your plans to visit Amazing Thailand because of this news???
  2. I guess you haven't spent much time in BKK. The food hygiene in street-food stalls is appalling and the temperature on the streets is always 30C plus. Have you seen that there is no hot water to wash the dishes, cutlery or bowls? Rats and insects are everywhere even in the poshest areas. Food sits out all day in the heat. They do not use bottled water to cook or wash with in the streets. If you do choose to eat anything, i suggest noodles or anything that is cooked in front of you freshly. Not reheated meat on a stick. At least the mall food courts are clean. However, most visitors want to try the street stalls so just be careful with what you eat.
  3. Lots of construction going on next plot. maybe noisy
  4. Lots of bars and clubs in Thonglor and Ekkamai worth a look. Ainu in Thonglor is one of my favorites
  5. Hawaii, Christina, Biwa & Bangkok Cozy are a few that might be useful 1300baht upwards before 6pm
  6. 1. take a longtail boat trip 2. take a tuk tuk ride 3. visit blind massage school 4. get a traditional tattoo 5. visit one of the many orphanages 6. take a stroll through lumpini park just to see the giant monitor lizards 7. visit one of the non touristy temples to observe locals making merit 8. chatuchak market just because its massive 9. walk through klong toey fresh market 10. baiyoke tower just to get a view of bkk at sunset
  7. Any food court in a the many shopping malls are good and you dont need to sit in the street to eat street style food. Most street markets do have lots of food stalls some with seating areas also.
  8. It happens much more often than is reported. This was attack only became public because foreign bloggers and journalists put it out 3 days before the local media reported it. Check out the online news papers in Pattaya and you will find that it is a daily occurrence.
  9. 1. Don't go if you look older than 40 overweight and wear shorts and don't speak Thai. 2. Don't go if you look older than 40 overweight and wear shorts and don't speak Thai. 3. Go if you are willing to spend a few quid its great fun to be spoiled like Hugh Hefner regardless of your age or looks. 4. Most soapies are ok but my preference is for Amsterdam as they have my type of girls there (light skinned). In addition maybe try Shock club if you look as described. Non Caucasians are well catered for here maybe not so welcome in other clubs.
  10. BTS On Nut. Sukhumvit soi 79 has many cheap massage shops.
  11. go to any branch of Healthland Massage & Spa chain throughout Thailand and you will be able to have a straight massage by an accredited masseuse.
  12. it is slang but means as many have stated. where are you. most Thais write slang as it is much shorter although grammatically incorrect, just as we do in our own languages. dya geddit? 555 When Thai is translated formally most of the sentences will be longer than in English (but not always). Our company recently had some documents professionally translated and due to typesetting and formal Thai language 10 A4 documents in English turned into 25 A4 documents in Thai. English doesn't translate well verbatim to Thai but expresses the meaning when translated.
  13. as chicken feet is also formally written as leg chicken as feet as well as ass are considered impolite words. however in the usa chasing ass and chasing tail is the same thing 555
  14. that is an accurate translation. Tood gai yang translated from Thai to English mean Ass Chicken Grilled. That is a perfect translation as that is exactly what it is.
  15. Bangkok is the most capital dangerous city in the world ... unlike your own major cities where no one gets conned, overcharged, robbed or cheated. Please don't come here with all your money as there are enough of us here already and we can cope with all the street crime, danger and women without your help. 555
  16. there are a few hotels within your budget in soi 7/1 (soi of Eden and Dr,BJ. 50metres to the foot of the stairs to BTS Nana. friendly enough area and minutes to the action. Sorry I cant give you a hotel name as there has been a revamp in that soi and many of the refurbished hotels have changed their names. The ones that I knew of were named World Inn, Star Inn and Max something. I/m sure others can be more helpful with names.
  17. There are a few Singaporeans in this forum that you may want to holler on.
  18. Does anyone know where the ENGLISH language school that was at the bottom of the escalator at BTS Prakhanong has relocated to as the whole block has been demolished for a construction project. thanks in advance.
  19. Welcome to the forum. Sorry but Ive never been to Vietnam but friends have told me the scene is very different and much more mercenary. Hopefully some more knowledgeable members here will help answer your questions
  20. Went to the highly publicized Hooters yesterday afternoon. maybe a coincidence but a few well know members of this forum were there as well as a few popular gogo bar owners also. Well here is my humble experience; Yes some cute sexy serving staff and service was polite but nothing to make the place stand out fro many other similar places. However, the food was less than average and without describing each of the 4 meals we had (its a steak, burger and wings joint). It was very disappointing and the usual famous fast food joints are much better and cheaper. I had the worst iced mocha that I've ever had in Thailand and it tasted like a very weak instant warm 3 in 1 coffee sachet with a few ice cubes floating in it, that melted before i even drank half of it. Hopefully others will have a better dining experience but a western restaurant that serves soggy french fries probably isn't gonna make it in this city.
