  1. This is a slightly more detailed review of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit from my September 2018 trip report here: http://www.bangkok-addicts.com/forum/topic/8882-september-2018-trip-report-just-agencies-and-freelancers-this-trip/ Hotel overall: - Definitely would stay again. If the rates weren't so high, the Sheraton Grande would be my first choice in Bangkok. - Girl friendly without issue. - Room photos on Trip Advisor, Agoda and Booking are all accurate. - Luxury service and it shows. The hardware I can't say is luxury, but the service here was fantastic. Location: - Really convenient. Less than a 5 minute walk door to door to Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT. - Next door to the Terminal 21 shopping mall. Sometimes I'd get takeout and brought it back to my room. - In the immediately area at street level is a 7-Eleven and next door is Times Square with a Boots, Subway and Amazon Cafe. - Across the street is a Tops Supermarket and small food court, McDonald's, Robinsons and a tourist favourite massage place which tends to have an hour wait. - 10-15 minute walk to Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, Sukhumvit soi 7, the clubs on Sukhumvit soi 11 and Sukhumvit soi 22 - Downside is that trying to find breakfast that wasn't McDonald's was a good 10-15 minute walk away. - A lot of ladyboys on this side of Sukhumvit Rd if you're into that. They weren't nearly as agressive as the ladyboys on the north side of Sukhumvit. Room: - Standard international hotel chain western style room. - Large, spacious and bright. Rooms have been undergoing renovations throughout 2018 though when looking at old and current photos I don't see much difference. - The bathroom is larger than my bedroom at home. - Shower is only large enough for one person to fit. - There's a separate bathtub as well. - Rooms face either north or south. My room faced north towards the Westin Grande Sukhumvit and Terminal 21. Rooms facing south have a beautiful view towards Benchakiti Park. Service: - A bit too girl friendly for my personal preference. Instead of guest services calling my room, the staff would escort the girl to my room. Though it depended on the staff working at guest services because sometimes I'd receive the call and then go downstairs to meet the girl myself. - On day three, housekeeping noticed all the girls I was bringing to my room (and I guess all the used condoms in the rubbish bin) and began setting out a second pair of slippers beside the bed and extra water bottles. - I checked out at 4:30 AM to make an 8 AM flight. The staff were good at checking out the taxi and driver before letting me go. The first taxi was hesitant about going to Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Sheraton didn't want me to take this one. But no other taxi was coming so I took the chance. Staff wrote down the details of the taxi on a Sheraton business card in case I got into trouble and could call them. Amenities: - The gym is well equiped. Don't think I ever saw more than 8-10 people there at any time. - There's a dry sauna and hot tub/whirlpool in the changerooms. Don't know why anyone would want to use these indoors in Bangkok when it's already 33* celcius outside. - Gorgeous unheated pool area. Lots of Instagram photos. Also really crowded. A lot of chairs in the pool area but pretty much every one is occupied from 10 AM to midnight. - Restaurant with a small menu at the pool which was pretty good. Typical western choices like burger, pasta, ice cream. Restaurants: - I saw the lunch buffets but didn't try it. It looked pretty good but was expensive, even with my 50% off discount. The dinner buffet looked even better. Additional thoughts: - I know tipping isn't required in Bangkok or Thailand but I do it at hotels anyways. I've found that tipping housekeeping daily does get me some extra amenities (without me just going to the housekeeping trolly and asking for them myself). I think for most people this doesn't matter and I agree with that as well.
  2. This is a slightly more detailed review of the Westin Grande Sukhumvit from my September 2018 trip report here: http://www.bangkok-addicts.com/forum/topic/8882-september-2018-trip-report-just-agencies-and-freelancers-this-trip/ Hotel overall: - Definitely would stay again. - Girl friendly without issue. - Room photos on Trip Advisor, Agoda and Booking are all accurate. - A mid range hotel though you could find other mid range hotels with lower rates if you don't need the larger room and hotel amenities. Location: - Really convenient. Less than a 5 minute walk door to door to Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT. - Next door to the Terminal 21 shopping mall. Sometimes I'd get takeout and brought it back to my room. - At street level is a Tops Supermarket and small food court, McDonald's, Robinsons and a tourist favourite massage place which tends to have an hour wait. Room: - Standard international hotel chain western style room. - Large, spacious and bright. - Shower is only large enough for one person to fit. - There's a separate bathtub as well. - Rooms face either east or west. My room faced east towards the Terminal 21 complex and the hotel and apartment there. Not great if you like having the blinds open. Service: - Guest services called my room when girls arrived to confirm if I was expecting a guest, and called my room again after the girl left to see if I was okay. At first I didn't like how I lost my anonymity, but later thought my safety was worth it. - The lobby is on the 7th (or 8th?) floor by elevator, so from street level you're greeted by staff as well. Amenities: - Good variety of equipment, but only 1-2 of each. - The gym is well equiped but feels crowded if there are 12 or more people. The gym gets a lot of guests in the morning. - Salt water pool which seemed unheated. Large enough for both laps and casual playing. - Not enough chairs on the pool deck. I think only 10-12. None of the chairs offered any shade. Restaurants: - I saw the breakfast and lunch buffets but didn't try them. When in Thailand I try to have as much fresh seafood as I can. The Westin lunch buffet didn't have much seafood so I passed. Huge dessert selection though. - The lobby level cafe/bar has an outdoor bar-style seating area which gives you a nice view of Asok BTS. The barstools aren't all that comfortable but it's an enjoyable view of people coming and going from the BTS.
  3. This review is a duplicate from my February 2018 trip report and cross-posted here. Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Sukhumvit 11 Location: At the end of Sukhumvit Soi 11. A good 10 minute walk from Sukhumvit primarily due to the uneven, narrow sidewalks and people. A bit of a hassle rolling my suitcase to the hotel. Across the street is Insanity club and that club whose name I don’t remember at Aloft Hotel. Across the other street is a pretty good 7-Eleven which stocks travel size toiletries if you need them. Breakfast: In the lobby and included free. It never got crowded enough that I wasn’t able to get a table to myself. I guess the hotel was far from being full. Not a huge selection really. Scrambled eggs, noodles or rice, baked beans, sausage, breads, cereals and fruit. The pastries tasted really bland. The coffee from the machine was surprisingly good. If you enjoy a good breakfast then I’d recommend going down the street to try one of the bars instead. Since breakfast was included with the room it was good enough for me. I wouldn't openly recommend it other than for that reason though. Room: My room was street-facing and the noise of the taxis and motorbikes came through as if there were no walls or windows at all. Non-stop outside noise from 9 am to 2 am. It was incredibly annoying. Couch, chair and mini fridge in the room. Bed was comfortable as were the pillows. The hotel itself only has 8 floors which means no good views no matter which room. Bathroom: Typical size and layout for Holiday Inn Express. Can accommodate two people at the same time though the sink, toilet and shower don’t have any separation or dividers. Girl-friendly: Yes. For the outcalls I had, some girls contacted me when they were in the lobby and I went down to meet them. No questions from the front desk. Other outcall girls the front desk had called me when they were downstairs and asked that I go down to bring them up. I then met the girls in the lounge area and they came up with me. The freelancers from the streets we just walked in together and no questions from the front desk. Did the walk of shame every time past the front desk and hotel guests. Two 300 ml bottles of water provided daily. Wifi averaged about 30 Mbps both down and up. Porn sites are blocked. I tried multiple times. Small gym is on the roof with 4 cardio machines and a bench with dumbbells. Not really enough room to accommodate more than 3 people. The dumbbells go up to 50 lbs. The floors don't have mats if you're thinking of using the free weights. Real oversight on the gym here. No pool. Self-service laundry in the basement. No signs indicating this. I saw an online review mention this so I went searching in the hotel. Uses coins and one hour each for washing and drying. I think the rates were 60 baht for the washer and 90 baht for the dryer. More expensive than outside, but here you don't have to leave the hotel and it'll be washed in an hour. Dry in another hour if you desire. I booked directly through the IHG site and used a Friends and Family code I have. Prepayment at time of booking (months ago) was required. No questions asked about my F&F discount. My experience with some other IHG properties is that this is a hotel-by-hotel basis where they may try to verify the F&F discount. This hotel didn't ask for the F&F discount claim form either.

  5. I'm planning on taking my first trip to BKK and l was wondering if anyone has stayed at Apartments Siamese Gioia. The information/pictures on Agoda seem to support that it's a good place to stay and the overall reviews on Agoda & Google and Trip Advisor support this. I was just wanting to know from people who have traveled to BKK before how it stacks up in terms of price, location and if you have stayed there what was your experience like? Thanks in advance for any advice, thoughts, stories or experiences.
  6. Stayed here for a week earlier this month. The hotel was built in early 2017 I believe. It is located on the Police Station corner of Asoke. Hotel on left. Stairs to Asoke BTS far right. Very convenient for Terminal 21 food hall/restaurants. Also a short walk to Sukhumvit MRT. They have a coffee show on the ground floor, but didn't try. No pool, gym, room service or laundry. No problem walking girls back from Soi Cowboy or Thermae. A 40b taxi ride from Nana. They do not take the girls ID cards. No problem taking one girl after another, didn't try 2 at once. The beds are comfy. The furniture is poorly assembled Ikea...just like home  Nice view of Asoke junction. Noisy most of the time. TV didn't have any English language channels. WiFi worked ok. Remote to AC was handy. Safe was "portable" All the staff seem to be female and super friendly. Everything was clean and new.
  7. Hi all, Did any of you mongers stayed before at iCheckinn Sukhumvit Soi 2? Thinking about staying at this place for my next trip, so all info is welcome :) Thanks in advance!
  8. Stayed at this place from 26th to 30th May. For the past 20 years, always have been staying here whenever I am in Bangkok and always rated it very highly. Sadly, on this occasion it was anything but 5 Star. The place is in need of serious refurbishment, especially the rooms. The Wifi can range from non existence to max of 1Mb. Staff are friendly enough and breakfast is good. The only positives going for this place are that it's guest-friendly and the location is perfect for the Sukhumvit experience. Would I stay again - it would really depend on the prices. If you can get a good package deal then probably yes. It is a busy hotel so you will see herds checking in and out throughout the day. Hope this helps others.
  9. Anyone have experience with Woraburi Sukhumvit Hotel on Soi 4 ? http://www.woraburi.com/woraburisukhumvit/ . I will be with a girl on next Bangkok trip ...do you recommend this hotel ? will they allow my girl to stay for day+night ? Or do you guys think apartment will be better (If yes please suggest some nice apartments on sukhumvit between soi 15-soi 4) ? thanks
  10. THis is the second time i have stayed at swiss park. I like the location in sukhumvit. It is easy to get to by taxi from the airport. It is close to the nana bts stop which makes using the bts easy and fast. It is only about 30m to the bts station. The hotel has a car park and a good morning buffet. The food is not special but good. the hotel is getting pretty run down and not very well maintained. The pool is cleaned on a regular basis but is in decay. The chairs are torn and need replacing. the rooms are guest friendly and large. but they are dirty and need updating. I spilled some water on the floor and the area where it was showed how dirty the floors are. They have not been washed for a long time and the walls of the room i am in are dirty with visible signs of food or other filth on them. The beds are changed every day which is about the only thing getting cleaned there.. I would still recommend the swiss park for those on a budget but for 40.00 usd or 1200bt a night i would look at narry next door with seems clean and modern and new. But given the swiss park's location, buffet, and other factors the value is still quite good if you can over look the pool and dirty rooms.
