Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit

Recommended Posts

This is a slightly more detailed review of the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit from my September 2018 trip report here: http://www.bangkok-addicts.com/forum/topic/8882-september-2018-trip-report-just-agencies-and-freelancers-this-trip/

Hotel overall:

- Definitely would stay again. If the rates weren't so high, the Sheraton Grande would be my first choice in Bangkok.

- Girl friendly without issue.

- Room photos on Trip Advisor, Agoda and Booking are all accurate.

- Luxury service and it shows. The hardware I can't say is luxury, but the service here was fantastic.

Location:

- Really convenient. Less than a 5 minute walk door to door to Asok BTS and Sukhumvit MRT.

- Next door to the Terminal 21 shopping mall. Sometimes I'd get takeout and brought it back to my room.

- In the immediately area at street level is a 7-Eleven and next door is Times Square with a Boots, Subway and Amazon Cafe.

- Across the street  is a Tops Supermarket and small food court, McDonald's, Robinsons and a tourist favourite massage place which tends to have an hour wait.

- 10-15 minute walk to Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, Sukhumvit soi 7, the clubs on Sukhumvit soi 11 and Sukhumvit soi 22

- Downside is that trying to find breakfast that wasn't McDonald's was a good 10-15 minute walk away.

- A lot of Ladyboys on this side of Sukhumvit Rd if you're into that. They weren't nearly as agressive as the Ladyboys on the north side of Sukhumvit.

Room:

- Standard international hotel chain western style room.

- Large, spacious and bright. Rooms have been undergoing renovations throughout 2018 though when looking at old and current photos I don't see much difference.

- The bathroom is larger than my bedroom at home.

- Shower is only large enough for one person to fit.

- There's a separate bathtub as well.

- Rooms face either north or south. My room faced north towards the Westin Grande Sukhumvit and Terminal 21. Rooms facing south have a beautiful view towards Benchakiti Park.

Service:

- A bit too girl friendly for my personal preference. Instead of guest services calling my room, the staff would escort the girl to my room. Though it depended on the staff working at guest services because sometimes I'd receive the call and then go downstairs to meet the girl myself.

- On day three, housekeeping noticed all the girls I was bringing to my room (and I guess all the used condoms in the rubbish bin) and began setting out a second pair of slippers beside the bed and extra water bottles.

- I checked out at 4:30 AM to make an 8 AM flight. The staff were good at checking out the taxi and driver before letting me go. The first taxi was hesitant about going to Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Sheraton didn't want me to take this one. But no other taxi was coming so I took the chance. Staff wrote down the details of the taxi on a Sheraton business card in case I got into trouble and could call them.

Amenities:

- The gym is well equiped. Don't think I ever saw more than 8-10 people there at any time.

- There's a dry sauna and hot tub/whirlpool in the changerooms. Don't know why anyone would want to use these indoors in Bangkok when it's already 33* celcius outside.

- Gorgeous unheated pool area. Lots of Instagram photos. Also really crowded. A lot of chairs in the pool area but pretty much every one is occupied from 10 AM to midnight.

- Restaurant with a small menu at the pool which was pretty good. Typical western choices like burger, pasta, ice cream.

Restaurants:

- I saw the lunch buffets but didn't try it. It looked pretty good but was expensive, even with my 50% off discount. The dinner buffet looked even better.

Additional thoughts:

- I know tipping isn't required in Bangkok or Thailand but I do it at hotels anyways. I've found that tipping housekeeping daily does get me some extra amenities (without me just going to the housekeeping trolly and asking for them myself). I think for most people this doesn't matter and I agree with that as well.

Again really great review Adore!  Similar question regarding ID check when bringing a girl over, do they hold ID and if so is it a 21+ check?

In my 14 stays at the hotel I have never had a girl asked to leave ID at reception / security.

If you enter from the ground floor you bypass reception as it is on the next level up and can take the lift up to your room.

From reading the review above it seems the OP had an out-call come so it might be a bit different.

I agree with what the OP posted, I have stayed there twice, the second time I got a slight upgrade and the shower was larger and had a small bench that you could sit down on.

Also the hotel has a bar on street level. Bar Su, inside you will find single unattached Thai women. It’s not the meat market that you will find at other bars, more of an upscale freelancers.

I would like to add that the breakfast buffet in the morning is really good, I get a corporate rate so it is included for me.

No ID check, however if your date looks a little young ie under 18 then you could/should expect the security guys that stand near the elevators to say something.

Any idea what the freelancers rates are in Bar Su?

Can non guests go there for drinks?

I did not do an interview with any of the ladies of the night at Barsu so I have no idea what they are asking.  Yes non hotel guests can go their for drinks and food, there is an entrance at street level.

I am a Platinum Elite with Marriott, an dthey have great benefits at the JW and the Queen's Park in the Lounge.  Like 2-3 meals a day and Free Cocktails.  Hard to pass up, but I would like to try the Sheraton Grand for a couple of nights on my next trip.  Anyone have knowledge if they have an Executive Lounge, and if so, what service do they have there?

Thanks!

No lounge but many options available through the Hotel.

Check this link http://bysherry.com/sheraton-grande-sukhumvit-bangkok/ for a guide to benefits while it was when it came under the SPG umbrella it is still relevant now.

Over on Flyertalk there is a long post about the hotel, also one about Queens Park Marriott which might be worth reading for comparison.

I actually like the SGS options more than just a executive lounge.

I have no idea. Girl #1 (freelancer I've seen on past trips) I met in the lobby and brought her up to my room as we've done this in the past. Girl #2 the agency called my room and let me know that the girl was waiting downstairs. Girl #3 the staff escorted the girl right to my room without calling me beforehand (I felt embarrassed because the girl turned out to be somewhat below average looking but oh well).

I walked around the lobby cafe during breakfast and indeed the offerings did look good. I'm not as a big eater as I used to be just due to getting older. The buffet was very appealing though.

Bar Su is on street level and open to the public. The street level entrance to the Sheraton is easy to miss. I've read reports on other forums saying that the freelancers in Bar Su are in the 4000-5000 range.

I'm 95% sure that the Sheraton Grand Sukhumvit doesn't have a lounge for members. You get the lobby cafe buffet breakfast instead.
